1. A method of providing targeted content to users through client devices each connected to a network through a service provider wherein a plurality of service providers serve as access points for connection to the network, the method comprising the steps of:
- monitoring network activities of client devices by participation of more than one service provider;
collecting information derived from said network activities;
applying rules to said information to identify a user to receive targeted content; and
providing said targeted content to a client device associated with said identified user.

Abstract
A method of providing targeted content includes obtaining behavioral information from client devices or client device users in a networked environment, and causing content (e.g., advertising) to be selected and delivered to a client device based on behavioral information. According to the method, a plurality of service providers each participate in monitoring network activities of client devices that connect to a network through such service providers. Information derived from the network activities is collected and rules are applied to the information to identify a user to receive the targeted content. The targeted content is thereupon provided to a client device associated with the identified user.

24. A method of providing desired targeted content to a client comprising the steps of:

generating an information request; routing said information request to a proxy; requesting information, identified by said information request, from a server; returning said requested information to said proxy; applying a context reader to said requested information to obtain context information from said requested information; sending said context information to a moderator; selecting desired targeted content in response to said context information together with other information gathered about a user; and providing said desired targeted content to the client.
