Abstract
The present invention is directed to a device and method for opening obstructed body internal passages and for sensing and characterizing tissues and substances being in contact with the device of the invention. In general, the device of the present invention comprises a catheter tube capable of inducing vibrations in a guidewire contained therein, wherein said vibrations of the guidewire are utilized for opening a passage through an occlusion. The in-vivo vibrations may be induced by means of a magnetic field actuating means (5) and a guidewire (2) comprising magnetic coupling means (3), or by means of transducers, which may be also used for the sensing.

- 57. A device for inducing in-vivo vibrations in a body passageway or an organ, comprising a catheter tube comprising one or more lumens, magnetic field actuating means capable of inducing an alternating magnetic field within one or more sections of said one or more lumens, and a guidewire contained in said one or more lumens, wherein said guidewire comprises magnetic coupling means adapted to produce vibrations in said guidewire responsive to said alternating magnetic field.
- 69. A catheter tube adapted for in vivo induction of a magnetic field within one or more sections of one or more lumens thereof by magnetic field actuating means, wherein said magnetic field is capable of applying magnetic forces on devices passing in said one or more lumens.
- 76. A catheter device adapted for in vivo induction of a magnetic field within one or more sections of its lumens comprising, an outer conduit, an inner conduit disposed within said outer conduit and one or more electromagnetic coil embedded in, or mounted on, a wall section of said outer conduit, wherein said magnetic field is capable of applying magnetic forces on devices passing in said one or more lumens.
