Abstract

An applicator device for applying at least one agent to a target site, including: a rigid section configured for the passage of fluid therethrough, the rigid section having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion, the proximal end portion configured for communication with at least one fluid reservoir; a formable section attached to the distal end portion of the rigid section, the formable section configured to be shaped into a desired configuration, the formable section including at least a first lumen and a second lumen, the first lumen configured to receive fluid from the rigid section; and a malleable member positioned within the second lumen, wherein the malleable member is configured to assist in retaining the formable section in the desired configuration.

Claims

1. An applicator device for applying at least one agent to a target site, comprising:

a rigid section configured for the passage of fluid therethrough, the rigid section having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion, the proximal end portion configured for communication with at least one fluid reservoir;

a formable section attached to the distal end portion of the rigid section, the formable section configured to be shaped into a desired configuration, the formable section including at least a first lumen and a second lumen, the first lumen configured to receive fluid from the rigid section; and

a malleable member positioned within the second lumen, wherein the malleable member is configured to assist in retaining the formable section in the desired configuration.

2. The device of claim 1, wherein the malleable member has at least one characteristic selected from the group consisting of:

being a wire, having a square cross-sectional shape and being made of metal.

3. The device of claim 1, wherein the formable section is releasably connected to the rigid member.

The device of claim 1, wherein the rigid section includes a lumen extending therethrough and a first fluid conduit and a second fluid conduit extending through the lumen, the first fluid conduit configured to be in communication with a first fluid reservoir and the second fluid conduit configured to be in communication with a second fluid reservoir.

5. The device of claim 1, wherein the formable section includes a third lumen extending therethrough, the third lumen of the formable section in communication with the first fluid conduit and the first lumen of the formable section in communication with the second fluid conduit.

6. The device of claim 1, which includes an applicator tip located at a distal end of the formable section, the applicator tip configured to receive fluid from the formable section and apply the fluid to a target site.

7. The device of claim 6, wherein the applicator tip is at least one of:

(i) releasably attached to the formable section;

(ii) configured to receive and mix fluids from the first lumen and a third lumen of the formable section;

(iii) welded to the formable section;

(iv) formed by compressing a tube of the formable section to expose the malleable member, crimping the malleable member and uncompressing the tube so that the tube extends past the crimped malleable member; and

(v) formed so as to mate sealingly with the proximal end portion of the rigid section so that multiple applicator devices can be stacked.

8. The device of claim 6, wherein the applicator tip includes a gas assisted sprayer.

9. The device of claim 8, wherein the lumen of the rigid section is configured to receive a stream of gas therethrough and the formable section includes at least a lumen in communication with the lumen of the rigid member, the formable section lumen configured to transmit the stream of gas from the lumen of the rigid section to the gas assisted sprayer.

10. The device of claim 1, which includes a plurality of malleable members forming at least one bending direction and at least one constrained direction for the formeable section.

11. The device of claim 10, wherein the rigid section includes a pair of anchoring flanges, the malleable members lying in a same or parallel plane with the pair of anchoring flanges.

12. A laparoscopic device for mixing and applying a multiple component agent to a target site, comprising:

an elongated rigid body having a proximal end, a distal end and a lumen extending therethrough;

a first fluid delivery conduit and a second fluid delivery conduit extending within the lumen, the first fluid delivery conduit configured to be in fluid communication with a first fluid reservoir and the second fluid delivery conduit configured to be in communication with a second fluid reservoir;

a formable member having a proximal end, a distal end and first and second fluid channels extending therethrough, the proximal end of the formable member operably connected to the distal end of the elongated body, and the first fluid channel in communication with the first fluid delivery conduit and the second fluid channel in communication with the second fluid delivery conduit, the formable member configured to be bent from a first configuration to a second configuration; and

a malleable insert extending through a lumen of the formable member, wherein the malleable insert is configured to assist in retaining the formable member in the second configuration.

13. The device of claim 12, wherein the malleable insert has at least one attribute selected from the group consisting of or being is a wire, having a square cross-sectional shape and being made of metal.

14. The device of claim 12, wherein the formable member is releasably connected to the elongated body.

15. The device of claim 12, further including a spray assembly connected to the distal end of the formable member, the spray assembly configured to receive a first fluid from the first fluid channel of the formable member and a second fluid from the second fluid channel of the formable member, and the spray assembly configured to apply the first and second fluids to a target site.

16. The device of claim 15, wherein the spray assembly includes is configured to mix the first and second fluids.

17. The device of claim 15, wherein the spray assembly includes a gas assisted sprayer.

18. The device of claim 17, wherein the lumen of the elongated body is configured to receive a stream of gas therethrough and the formable member includes at least a lumen in communication with the lumen of the elongated body, the lumen of the formable member configured to transmit the stream of gas from the lumen of the elongated body to the gas assisted sprayer.

19. A malleable tube for application of a medical agent comprising:

formable tubing having a proximal end, a distal end and a lumen for flowing the agent through the tubing; and

a malleable member disposed within and extending along the tubing, wherein when the formable tubing is maneuvered into a position, the malleable member is configured to retain the formable tubing in the position.

20. The malleable tube of claim 19, wherein the formable tubing has at least one characteristic selected from the group consisting of:

(i) the proximal end being configured to be releasably attached to a fluid delivery device;

(ii) the proximal end being fixed to a luer connector;

(iii) the distal end releasably attached to an applicator tip;

(iv) the distal end extending past the malleable member;

(v) the distal end welded to an applicator tip; and

(v) the distal end formed so as to mate sealingly with a proximal end of a connector fixed to the proximal end of the formable tubing, so that multiple malleable tubes can be stacked.

21. The malleable tube of claim 19, wherein the malleable member has at least one attribute selected from the group consisting of:

being is a wire, having a square cross-sectional shape, and being made of metal.

22. The malleable tube of claim 19, wherein the formable member includes a lumen for allowing a stream of air to pass therethrough.

23. The malleable tube of claim 19, which includes a plurality of malleable members forming at least one bending direction and at least one constrained direction for the malleable tube.

24. The malleable tube of claim 23, which includes a luer connector connected to the proximal end, the luer connector including at least one anchoring flange, the malleable members lying in a same or parallel plane with the at least one anchoring flange.

25. The malleable tube of claim 23, wherein the constrained direction is in a first plane through two of the plurality of malleable members, and the bending direction in a second plane perpendicular to the first plane.

26. A system for applying one or more agents to a target site within the body, comprising:

a rigid section configured for the passage of material and gas therethrough, the rigid section having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion;

a material applicator in fluid communication with the proximal end portion of the rigid section;

a formable section attached to the distal end portion of the rigid section, the formable section configured to be shaped into and retain a desired configuration, the formable section configured to receive fluid and gas from the rigid section; and

an applicator tip attached to a distal end of the formable section, the applicator tip configured to receive fluid and gas from the formable section and apply the fluid to a target site.

27. The system of claim 26, further including a control member configured to control a supply gas to the rigid section.
