Abstract

The attachment for a stitching tool is an attachment that enables a manually operated stitching tool to convert to a power-operated stitching tool. The attachment includes an ergonomically designed handle mounted on a base, which base is provided with an opening at one end thereof. The opening is designed to receive the grasping portions of a manually operated, conventional stitching tool. Mechanisms in the base engage the grasping portions of the stitching tool to mechanically manipulate the grasping portions. The mechanisms are powered by an electric motor. Controls are provided on the handle for operating the electric motor.

Claims

1. An attachment for a stitching tool, comprising:

a base member having a first end and a second end;

a motive power source coupled to the first end of the base member;

an opening disposed in the second end of the base member adapted for receiving the stitching tool therein;

a handle mounted on the base member;

a latch disposed on the attachment for securing the stitching tool in the opening; and

means in the base member for actuating the stitching tool.

2. The attachment for a stitching tool according to claim 1, wherein said motive power source comprises an electric motor.

3. The attachment for a stitching tool according to claim 1, wherein said handle is ergonomically designed.

4. The attachment for a stitching tool according to claim 1, wherein said motive power source comprises a DC electric motor, the attachment further comprising at least one battery connected to said electric motor.

5. The attachment for a stitching tool according to claim 1, wherein said motive power source comprises an AC electric motor, the attachment further comprising wiring electrically connected to said electric motor, said wiring connecting said electric motor to an AC electrical power source.

6. The attachment for a stitching tool according to claim 1, further including a switch on said attachment for selectively actuating said motive power source.

7. An attachment for a stitching tool, comprising:

a base member having a first end and a second end;

a motive power source coupled to the first end of the base member;

an opening disposed in the second end of the base member adapted for receiving a stitching tool therein;

an arm member extending from the second end, the arm member having an opening therein;

a handle mounted on the base member;

a latch disposed on the handle adapted for securing the stitching tool in the opening; and

means in the base member for actuating the stitching tool.

8. The attachment for a stitching tool according to claim 7, wherein said means for actuating the conventional stitching tool includes a lever mounted for pivotal movement on said base member.

9. The attachment for a stitching tool according to claim 7, wherein said motive power source comprises an electric motor.

10. The attachment for a stitching tool according to claim 7, wherein said handle is ergonomically designed.

11. The attachment for a stitching tool according to claim 7, wherein said motive power source comprises a DC electric motor, the attachment further comprising at least one battery connected to said electric motor.

12. The attachment for a stitching tool according to claim 7, wherein said motive power source comprises an AC electric motor, the attachment further including wiring electrically connected to said electric motor, said wiring connecting said electric motor to an AC electrical power source.

13. The attachment for a stitching tool according to claim 7, further including a switch on said attachment for selectively actuating said motive power source.

14. An attachment for a stitching tool, comprising:

a base member having a first end and a second end;

an electric motor coupled to the first end of the base member;

an opening disposed in the second end of the base member adapted for receiving a stitching tool therein;

an arm member extending from the second end, the arm member having an opening therein;

an ergonomically designed handle mounted on the base member;

a switch mounted on the attachment for selectively actuating the electric motor;

a latch disposed on the handle, the latch extending through the opening in the arm member, the latch being adapted for securing the stitching tool in the opening and to the arm member; and

means in the base member for actuating the stitching tool.

15. The attachment for a stitching tool according to claim 14, wherein said means for actuating the conventional stitching tool includes a lever mounted for pivotal movement on said base member.

16. The attachment for a stitching tool according to claim 15, wherein said electric motor is a DC motor and further including at least one battery connected to said electric motor.

17. The attachment for a stitching tool according to claim 15, wherein said electric motor is an AC motor and further including wiring connected to said electric motor, the wiring being adapted for connecting said electric motor to an AC electrical power source.
