Abstract

Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, are provided for selecting a processor, such as a hardware provider, for executing a virtual appliance. In one aspect, there is provided a computer-implemented method. The method may include receiving information representative of whether one or more processors are capable of executing at least one of a plurality of virtual appliances. The received information may further including one or more costs to execute the at least one virtual appliance at one of the processors. One of the processors may be selected based on the received information. The selection enables the processor to execute the at least one virtual appliance. Related apparatus, systems, methods, and articles are also described.

Claims

1. A computer-readable medium containing instructions to configure a processor to perform a method, the method comprising:

receiving information representative of whether one or more processors are capable of executing at least one of a plurality of virtual appliances;

selecting, based on the received information, at least one of the processors; and

implementing the at least one of the plurality of virtual appliances at the at least one selected processor.

2. The computer-readable medium of claim 1 further comprising:

selecting a virtual appliance for execution by the one or more processors, wherein the received information further includes one or more costs to execute the at least one virtual appliance at one of the processors.

3. The computer-readable medium of claim 2 further comprising:

providing information to one or more hardware providers information representing the selected virtual appliance, the one or more hardware providers including a processor for hosting one or more virtual appliances.

4. The computer-readable medium of claim 3 further comprising:

receiving, from the one or more hardware providers, one or more messages including one or more bids offering to execute the selected virtual appliance.

5. The computer-readable medium of claim 2 further comprising:

providing, to a controller, information representing a result of executing the selected virtual appliance at a hardware provider including the at least one selected processor.

6. A computer-implemented method comprising:

receiving information representative of whether one or more processors are capable of executing at least one of a plurality of virtual appliances;

selecting, based on the received information, at least one of the processors; and

implementing the at least one of the plurality of virtual appliances at the at least one selected processor.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 6 further comprising:

selecting a virtual appliance for execution by the one or more processors, wherein the received information further includes one or more costs to execute the at least one virtual appliance at one of the processors.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 7 further comprising:

providing information to one or more hardware providers information representing the selected virtual appliance, the one or more hardware providers including a processor for hosting one or more virtual appliances.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 8 further comprising:

receiving, from the one or more hardware providers, one or more messages including one or more bids offering to execute the selected virtual appliance.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 7 further comprising:

providing, to a controller, information representing a result of executing the selected virtual appliance at a hardware provider including the at least one selected processor.

11. A system comprising:

a processor; and

a memory, wherein the processor and the memory are configured to perform a method comprising;

receiving information representative of whether one or more processors are capable of executing at least one of a plurality of virtual appliances;

selecting, based on the received information, at least one of the processors; and

implementing the at least one of the plurality of virtual appliances at the at least one selected processor.

12. The system of claim 11 further comprising:

selecting a virtual appliance for execution by the one or more processors, wherein the received information further includes one or more costs to execute the at least one virtual appliance at one of the processors.

13. The system of claim 12 further comprising:

providing information to one or more hardware providers information representing the selected virtual appliance, the one or more hardware providers including a processor for hosting one or more virtual appliances.

14. The system of claim 13 further comprising:

receiving, from the one or more hardware providers, one or more messages including one or more bids offering to execute the selected virtual appliance.

15. The system of claim 12 further comprising:

providing, to a controller, information representing a result of executing the selected virtual appliance at a hardware provider including the at least one selected processor.
