Abstract

A method, device, and system for easier, consistent, and comfortable delivery of therapeutic agents to the front of the eye.

Claims

1. A device for delivery of therapeutic agents to the eye, comprising:

a. a polymeric structure; and

b. a barrier membrane containing one or more therapeutic agents.

2. The device of claim 1, wherein the polymeric structure has an elliptical outer edge and a circular opening which creates a circular inner edge.

3. The device of claim 1, wherein the polymeric structure is toric-shaped.

4. The device of claim 1, wherein the polymeric structure is C-shaped.

5. The device of claim 1, wherein the polymeric structure is convex such that it conforms to the curvature of the outer eye.

6. The device of claim 5, wherein the apex of the convexity of the device is coterminus with the inner edge of the device.

7. The device of claims 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6, wherein the polymeric structure is composed of polymethylmethacrylate.

8. The device of claims 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6, wherein the polymeric structure is composed of hydroxyethylmethacrylate.

9. The device of claims 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6, wherein the polymeric structure is composed of silicone.

10. The device of claims 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6, wherein the polymeric structure is 13-19 mm measured across the internal diameter of the structure and 1-5 mm measured across widest section of the device.

11. The device of claims 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6, wherein the barrier membrane runs along the entire bottom surface of the polymeric structure.

12. The device of claims 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6, wherein the barrier membrane runs along a portion of the bottom surface of the polymeric structure.

47. A method of delivering therapeutic agents to the front of the eye comprising insertion of the device of claim 1.

51. A system of delivering therapeutic agents to the front of the eye comprising the devices of claims 1, 13, 24, and 36.

13. A device for delivery of therapeutic agents to the eye, comprising a polymeric structure having one or more therapeutic agents that are precipitated in the polymer and that will hydrolyze or dissolve allowing delivery of the agents into the eye.

14. The device of claim 13, wherein the polymeric structure has an elliptical outer edge and a circular opening which creates a circular inner edge.

15. The device of claim 13, wherein the polymeric structure is toric-shaped.

16. The device of claim 13, wherein the polymeric structure is C-shaped.

17. The device of claim 13, wherein the polymeric structure is convex such that it conforms to the curvature of the eye.

18. The device of claim 13, wherein the apex of the convexity of the device is coterminus with the inner edge of the device.

19. The device of claims 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, or 18, wherein the polymeric structure is composed of polymethylmethacrylate and one or more therapeutic agents.

20. The device of claims 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, or 18, wherein the polymeric structure is composed of hydroxyethylmethacrylate and one or more therapeutic agents.

21. The device of claims 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, or 18, wherein the polymeric structure is composed of silicone and one or more therapeutic agents.

22. The device of claims 13, wherein the polymeric structure is composed of a biodegradable polymer and one or more therapeutic agents.

23. The device of claims 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, or 22, wherein the polymeric structure is 13-19 mm measured across the internal diameter of the structure and 1-5 mm measured across widest section of the device.

48. A method of delivering therapeutic agents to the front of the eye comprising insertion of the device of claims 13.

24. A device for delivery of therapeutic agents to the eye comprising:

a. a polymeric structure;

b. a barrier membrane containing one or more therapeutic agents; and

c. a metal structural support mechanism along the outer edge of the polymeric structure.

25. The device of claim 24, wherein the polymeric structure has an elliptical outer edge and a circular opening which creates a circular inner edge.

26. The device of claim 24, wherein the polymeric structure is toric-shaped.

27. The device of claim 24, wherein the polymeric structure is C-shaped.

28. The device of claim 24, wherein the polymeric structure is convex such that it conforms to the curvature of the outer eye.

29. The device of claim 24, wherein the apex of the convexity of the device is coterminus with the inner edge of the device.

30. The device of claims 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, or 29, wherein the polymeric structure is composed of polymethylmethacrylate.

31. The device of claims 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, or 29, wherein the polymeric structure is composed of hydroxyethylmethacrylate.

32. The device of claims 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, or 29, wherein the polymeric structure is composed of silicone.

33. The device of claims 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, or 29, wherein the polymeric structure is 13-19 mm measured across the internal diameter of the structure and 1-5 mm measured across widest section of the device.

34. The device of claims 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, or 29, wherein the barrier membrane runs along the entire bottom surface of the polymeric structure.

35. The device of claims 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, or 29, wherein the barrier membrane runs along a portion of the bottom surface of the polymeric structure.

49. A method of delivering therapeutic agents to the front of the eye comprising insertion of the device of claim 24.

36. A device for delivery of therapeutic agents to the eye comprising:

a. a polymeric structure wherein the polymeric structure has one or more therapeutic agents that are precipitated in the polymer and that will hydrolyze or dissolve allowing delivery of the agents into the eye; and

b. a inert carrier that acts as a support mechanism along the outer edge of the polymeric structure.

37. The device of claim 36, wherein the polymeric structure has an elliptical outer edge and a circular opening which creates a circular inner edge.

38. The device of claim 36, wherein the polymeric structure is toric-shaped.

39. The device of claim 36, wherein the polymeric structure is C-shaped.

40. The device of claim 36, wherein the polymeric structure is convex such that it conforms to the curvature of the eye.

41. The device of claim 36, wherein the apex of the convexity of the device is coterminus with the inner edge of the device.

42. The device of claims 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, or 41, wherein the polymeric structure is composed of polymethylmethacrylate and one or more therapeutic agents.

43. The device of claims 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, or 41, wherein the polymeric structure is composed of hydroxyethylmethacrylate and one or more therapeutic agents.

44. The device of claims 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, or 41, wherein the polymeric structure is composed of silicone and one or more therapeutic agents.

45. The device of claims 36, wherein the polymeric structure is composed of a biodegradable polymer and one or more therapeutic agents.

46. The device of claims 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, or 45, wherein the polymeric structure is 13-19 mm measured across the internal diameter of the structure and 1-5 mm measured across widest section of the device.

50. A method of delivering therapeutic agents to the front of the eye comprising insertion of the device of claim 36.
