Abstract

Devices, systems and methods for retracting, lifting, compressing, supporting or repositioning tissues, organs, anatomical structures, grafts or other structures within the body of human or animal subjects for the purpose of treating a diseases or disorders and/or for cosmetic or reconstructive purposes and/or for research and development purposes or other purposes.

138. A system for manipulation of anatomic structure found at an interventional site, comprising:

at least one anchor assembly, the anchor assembly including a first anchor member, a second anchor member, and a connector joining the first and second anchor members;

an anchor delivery device, the anchor delivery device including a first actuator and being configured to receive and deploy the anchor assembly;

wherein manipulation of the first actuator accomplishes gaining access to a first site and deployment of the first anchor member independently of the second anchor member.

139. A system including an anchor assembly for assembly within a patient'"'"'s body, comprising:

a first anchor member;

a second anchor member including a first part and a second part;

a connector joining the first and second anchor members;

wherein the first and second parts are configured to be joined with the connector and each other within a patient'"'"'s body.

140. The system of claim 139, further comprising an anchor delivery device.

141. The system of claim 140, wherein the anchor delivery device is configured to accomplish the assembly of the anchor assembly within a patient'"'"'s body and the implantation of an assembled anchor assembly at an intervention site.

142. The system of claim 141, wherein the first part is embodied in a generally tubular member.

143. The system of claim 142, wherein the second part is embodied in a pin sized to both receive the connector and to form a locking engagement with the first part.

144. A system for retracting, lifting, compressing, supporting or repositioning of an organ or tissue within the body of a human or animal subject, said system comprising:

a first anchor having a connector attached thereto;

a first introducer useable to deliver and implant the first anchor at a first location within the subject'"'"'s body;

a second anchor that is advanceable over the connector; and

a second introducer useable to advance the second anchor over the connector to a second location and to affix the second anchor to the connector;

wherein the first anchor comprises an elongate tubular member that has a lumen that extends longitudinally therethrough, a distal end opening, a proximal end opening and a slot that extends longitudinally from the proximal end opening to a location between the proximal end opening and the distal end opening;

wherein the first introducer further comprises an endoscope;

wherein the first introducer further comprises a channel for receiving an endoscope.

145. A system according to claim 144 wherein the connector comprises suture thread.

146. A system according to claim 144 wherein the connector extends through the lumen of the tubular member such that a distal end of the connector extends out of and beyond the distal end opening of the tubular member, the distal end of the connector being non-retractable through the distal end opening.

147. A system according to claim 146 wherein an enlarged region is on the distal end of the connector to deter its retraction in the proximal direction through distal end opening.

A system according to claim 144 wherein the first introducer comprises an elongate shaft that is insertable into the subject'"'"'s body and a penetrator that is advanceable from the elongate shaft through tissue to said first location, said first anchor with the connector attached thereto deployable from said penetrator after the penetrator has been advanced to the first location.

149. A system according to claim 144 wherein the first introducer further comprises a handpiece on the proximal end of the elongate shaft.

150. A system according to claim 149 wherein the handpiece comprises a first actuator for advancing the penetrator and a second actuator for deploying the first anchor from the penetrator.

151. A system according to claim 144 wherein the second introducer comprises an elongate shaft having a second anchor delivery lumen and a pusher for advancing the second anchor through the second anchor delivery lumen and over the connector.

152. A system according to claim 151 wherein the second introducer further comprises a cutter for cutting the connector at a site proximal to the second anchor after the second anchor has been advanced to the second location.

153. A system according to claim 151 further comprising a handpiece on the proximal end of the elongate shaft, said handpiece comprising a first actuator for advancing the second anchor over the connector and a second actuator for locking the second anchor on the connector.

A system according to claim 152 further comprising a handpiece on the proximal end of the elongate shaft, said handpiece comprising a first actuator for advancing the second anchor over the connector, a second actuator for locking the second anchor on the connector and a third actuator for cutting the connector.

155. A system for implanting an anchor assembly, comprising:

at least one anchor assembly, the anchor assembly including a first anchor member, a second anchor member, and a connector joining the first and second anchor members; and

an anchor delivery device, the anchor delivery device including a trigger;

wherein actuation of the trigger accomplishes gaining access to a first site, deployment of the first anchor member independently of the second anchor member, and assembly of the second anchor member.

156. A system for implanting an anchor assembly, comprising:

at least one anchor assembly, the anchor assembly including a plurality of members that are joined partially or wholly in situ, and an anchor delivery device, the anchor delivery device including a trigger wherein actuation of the trigger one or more times accomplishes complete delivery of one anchor assembly.

157. A system including an anchor assembly for assembly within a patient'"'"'s body, comprising:

a first anchor member;

a second anchor member including a first part and a second part;

a connector joining the first and second anchor members;

wherein one or both of the first and second parts are configured to be joined with the connector and each other within a patient'"'"'s body;

wherein the system is configured with a single trigger which accomplishes the assembly of the anchor assembly within a patient'"'"'s body and accomplishes the implantation of an assembled anchor assembly.

158. A system, comprising:

a multi-part anchor assembly; and

an anchor delivery device, the anchor delivery device including a single trigger;

wherein the multi-part anchor assembly is delivered through the actuation of the single trigger.
