Abstract

A data classification module is configured to retrieve information from the repository and migrate the information into applications. The data classification module is configured to receive a request to migrate information and data from the repository into an application. The request can include the type of application and the type of information and data requested. The application can be an new application or an existing application. In order to locate information and data to migrate, the data classification module is configured to maintain rules that describe how the various applications maintain data and information.

Claims

1. A method of providing information, the method comprising:

receiving a request to migrate information compatible with an application;

searching a repository based on the request for the information compatible with the application, wherein the repository stores information in a hierarchical data structure related to stored entities, the hierarchical data structure comprising records containing stored identities of the entities, stored persons related to the stored entities, and stored data related to the stored entities;

retrieving first records from the repository, wherein the first records comprise stored information matching the information compatible with the application;

organizing the stored information into a format utilized by the application; and

providing the organized information to the application.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the request include a type of the application.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein retrieving information from the repository comprises:

determining the information compatible with the application based the type of the application; and

searching the repository for the first records containing the information that matches the information compatible with the format.

4. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

retrieving second records related to the first records, wherein the second records contain stored data compatible with the type of the application.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein organizing the information comprises:

providing the stored information of the first records in an interface;

receiving a selection of the stored information from the interface; and

organizing the selection into the format.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the application is a newly installed application and wherein the request is received upon instillation of the application.

7. An apparatus for providing information, the apparatus comprising:

an application interface configured to couple with a plurality of applications and configured to receive a request to migrate information compatible with one application of the plurality of applications;

a searchable repository configured to store information in a hierarchical data structure related to stored entities, the hierarchical data structure comprising records containing stored identities of the entities, stored persons related to the stored entities, and stored data related to the stored entities;

a search engine configured to couple to the repository and configured to search the repository based on the request for the information compatible with the one application; and

a translation engine configured to couple with the application interface, the search engine, and the searchable repository, wherein the translation engine is configured to retrieve first records from the repository, wherein the first records comprise stored information matching the information compatible with the one application; and

to organize the stored information into a format utilized by the one application,

wherein the application interface is further configured to provide the organized information to the one application.

8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the application interface is further configured to receive the request including a type of the one application.

9. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the translation engine is further configured to determine the information compatible with the one application based the type of the one application;

and wherein the search engine is configured to search the repository for the first records containing the information that matches the information compatible with the format.

10. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the translation engine is further configured to retrieve second records related to the first records, wherein the second records contain stored data compatible with the type of the one application.

11. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the translation engine is further configured to provide the stored information of the first records in an interface;

to receive a selection of the stored information from the interface; and

to organize the selection into the format.

12. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the application is a newly installed application and wherein the application interface is further configured to receive the request upon instillation of the one application.

13. A system for classifying data, the system comprising:

a server configured to store and execute a plurality of applications for a plurality of users, wherein each user is configured to be assigned a respective application space to execute the plurality of applications and each application of the plurality;

a searchable repository configured to be accessible to the plurality of users and configured to store information in a hierarchical data structure related to stored entities, the hierarchical data structure comprising records containing stored identities of the entities, stored persons related to the stored entities, and stored data related to the stored entities; and

an data classification module configured to receive a request to migrate information compatible with one application of the plurality of applications;

to search the repository based on the request for the information compatible with the application;

to retrieve first records from the repository, wherein the first records comprise stored information matching the information compatible with the application;

to organize the stored information into a format utilized by the application; and

to provide the organized information to the application.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the data classification module is further configured to receive the request including a type of the one application.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the data classification module is further configured to determine the information compatible with the one application based the type of the one application;

and to search the repository for the first records containing the information that matches the information compatible with the format.

16. The system of claim 14, wherein the data classification module is further configured to retrieve second records related to the first records, wherein the second records contain stored data compatible with the type of the one application.

17. The system of claim 13, wherein the data classification module is further configured to provide the stored information of the first records in an interface;

to receive a selection of the stored information from the interface; and

to organize the selection into the format.

18. The system of claim 13, wherein the application is a newly installed application and wherein the data classification module is further configured to receive the request upon instillation of the one application.
