Abstract

A landscape edging member for use in defining borders of walks, patios, driveways and the like, is provided with edge lips on one side of a base wall, which serve as stops when one of the landscape edging members is inverted and nested with another landscape edging member, to prevent lateral shifting of the nested landscape edging members when they are placed in a stack or bundle. The lips of the nested landscape edging members overlap portions of the vertical walls of the other one of the two nested landscape edging members, which form an inverted pair of landscape edging members. The lips are high enough from the base wall to prevent lateral shifting of the nested pair when a stack of the landscape edging members are shipped.

Claims

1. A stackable landscape edging member comprising a base wall, a substantially upright wall having a length and a free upper edge secured to the base wall, the base wall extending laterally of the upright wall and having an edge portion, an upstanding lip extending upwardly from an upper surface of the base wall along at least part of the edge portion of the base wall and of height to form a stop, the base wall supporting the upright wall at least at selected locations along the length of the upright wall.

The stackable landscape edging of claim 1, comprising a first stackable landscape edging member having a length, in combination with a second said stackable landscape edging member having a substantially identical length, the second landscape edging member being inverted and nesting on the first landscape edging member, each lip of the respective landscape edging members overlapping an exterior side of the free upper edge of the upright wall of the other landscape edging member to stop the upper edges from sliding laterally.

The stackable landscape edging member of claim 1, further comprising an inclined wall having a first wall edge joined to the base wall adjacent to and spaced from the lip to leave a base wall segment between the inclined wall and the lip, and a second edge of the inclined wall joined to the upright wall at a junction spaced above the base wall, and extending at least partially along the length of the upright wall.

4. The stackable landscape edging member of claim 3, further characterized by a base wall portion extending from the upright wall in direction opposite from the inclined wall, and a series of notches formed in the base wall portion to permit the upright wall to be flexed along its length.

5. The stackable landscape edging member of claim 1, wherein the landscape edging member base wall, and wall segment are longitudinally extending and all longitudinal lines along the wall segment are straight.

6. The stackable landscape edging member of claim 1, wherein the upright wall, the base wall, and the lip are substantially planar.

The stackable landscape edging member of claim 3, comprising a first landscape edging member having a length, in combination with a second said landscape edging member having a substantially identical configuration and length, the second landscape edging member being inverted and nested on the first landscape edging member, each lip of the respective first and second landscape edging members positioned on an exterior side of the free upper edge of the upright wall of the other landscape edging member.

8. The stackable landscape edging member of claim 1, wherein each of the base wall segments is substantially planar in longitudinal direction and has a longitudinal length, and is free of protrusions along the respective base wall segments.

A stackable landscape edging member comprising a base wall, a substantially upright wall secured with respect to the base wall and extending upwardly therefrom and having a free upper edge, said base wall and upright wall having lengths, the base wall extending laterally of the upright wall and generally perpendicular thereto, and having an outer edge portion, an upstanding lip extending upwardly along at least part of the outer edge portion of the base wall, a brace wall joined to the base wall adjacent to and spaced inwardly from the upright lip, and extending to overlie the base wall and join the upright wall at a position spaced downwardly from the free upper edge of the upright wall, a substantially planar base wall segment between the junction of the brace wall and the base wall and the upright lip.

The landscape edging member of claim 9, wherein the base wall and the brace wall are formed as a separate assembly, the upright wall having supports on a back side thereof, each of the upright wall and the base wall having wall segments engaging the supports on the upright wall to form the landscape edging member.

The landscape edging member of claim 10, wherein the base wall and the brace wall form separate brace sections, said brace sections being substantially shorter than a length of the upright wall, and a plurality of the brace sections being positioned along the upright wall, a retainer base wall portion extending from a lower end of the upright wall in direction opposite from the base wall, and a series of notches formed in the retainer base wall portion to permit the upright wall to be flexed along its length between the brace sections.

12. The landscape edging member of claim 9, wherein the base wall, the upright wall, the brace wall and the lip are planar and are extrudable as a unitary landscape edging member.

13. The landscape edging member of claim 9, comprising a first landscape edging member in combination with a second landscape edging member, the second landscape edging member being inverted from the first landscape edging member and nesting thereon with the free upper edge of each landscape edging member resting on the base wall segment of the other landscape edging member, the lips of each landscape edging member overlapping the upper edge of the upright wall of the other landscape edging member and being of effective length to restrain lateral shifting of the inverted nesting pair of landscape edging members.

14. The landscape edging member of claim 9, wherein the landscape edging member is extruded as a unitary piece.

15. An extrudable landscape edging member comprising an upright restraint wall and a base wall extending laterally from the upright wall, and having an edge spaced from the upright wall, and an upright lip unitarily formed along the edge of the base wall to provide an effective stop to restrain lateral movement of a vertical wall of another inverted landscape edging member resting on the base, in direction away from the upright wall.

16. The extrudable landscape edging member of claim 15 and a brace wall joined to the base wall at a junction and extending to brace the upright wall, the base wall having a planar segment between the junction and the lip.

17. The extrudable landscape edging member of claim 16, the brace wall being supported on the upright wall at a location spaced downwardly from an upper edge of the upright wall.

18. A brace section for joining to an upright landscape edging member comprising a base wall having a first connector along a first edge and an upright lip at a second edge, the upright lip being planar and extending along a length of the base wall, and a brace wall joined to the base wall at a location spaced from the upright lip and inclining upwardly toward, and terminating with a second connector substantially along, a plane perpendicular to the base wall and lying along the first connector.
