Abstract

A communication system including a reader application device having a reader application, and a reader configured to operate under control of the reader application to allow data to be transmitted between the reader application device and a user device via the reader.

Claims

1. A communication system, comprising:

a reader application device having a reader application; and

a reader configured to operate under control of the reader application to allow data to be transmitted between the reader application device and a user device via the reader.

2. The communication system of claim 1, wherein the reader application device is coupled with the reader.

3. The communication system of claim 2, wherein the coupling is contactless.

4. The communication system of claim 1, wherein the user device is coupled with the reader.

5. The communication system of claim 4, wherein the coupling is contactless.

6. The communication system of claim 1, wherein the reader is further configured to operate under control of the reader application to allow data to be transmitted between the reader application device, the user device, and a background system of the reader via the reader.

7. The communication system of claim 1, wherein a level of the security of the data transmission is determined at least in part on the reader application device.

8. The communication system of claim 7, wherein the reader application device comprises a banking application.

9. The communication system of claim 7, wherein the reader application device comprises a near field communication application.

10. The communication system of claim 1, wherein there is no security.

11. The communication system of claim 1, wherein the reader application device comprises a display and/or input device.

12. The communication system of claim 1, wherein the reader is a wireless communication device.

13. The communication system of claim 12, wherein the wireless communication device is a cellular phone configured to communicate using near field communication.

14. The communication system of claim 1, further comprising a plurality of reader application devices.

15. The communication system of claim 14, further comprising a selector configured to select a reader application device of the plurality of reader application devices based at least in part on an application requirement of the user device.

16. A reader application device configured to provide a reader with a reader application to control the reader to allow data to be transmitted between the reader application device and a user device via the reader.

17. The reader application device of claim 16, wherein the reader is further configured to operate under control of the reader application to allow data to be transmitted between the reader application device, the user device, and a background system of the reader via the reader.

18. The reader application device of claim 16, wherein a level of the security of the data transmission is determined at least in part on the reader application device.

19. A reader configured to communicate with a reader application device that provides the reader with a reader application to control the reader to allow data to be transmitted between the reader application device and a user device via the reader.

20. The reader of claim 19, further comprising:

an internal reader application; and

a selector configured to select between the internal reader application and the reader application of the reader application device,

wherein the selector selects the reader application of the reader application device when the reader application device is detected.

21. The reader of claim 19, further comprising:

an internal reader application; and

a selector configured to select between the internal reader application and the reader application of the reader application device,

wherein the selector selects the reader application of the reader application device based at least in part on the user device.

22. The communication system of claim 19, wherein the reader application device is coupled with the reader contactlessly.

23. The communication system of claim 19, wherein the user device is coupled with the reader contactlessly.

24. A communication method, comprising:

receiving first data from a user device;

receiving second data from a reader application device having a reader application; and

transmitting the first data between the reader application device and the user device via a reader under control of the reader application.

25. The communication method of claim 24, further comprising transmitting the first data between the reader application device, the user device, and a background system of the reader via the reader under control of the reader application.
