Abstract

Disclosed is an improvement to the bag computer of application Ser. No. 11/796,920. The bag computer has a pivoting display panel near its top front which can store against the bag front or pivot into the line of sight of the bag computer wearer/operator. To accommodate the computer input of typed or written information the bag computer may have a pivoting input device on the bag front. The input device may mount on a pivoting cover which covers the display panel when in storage or the input device may have a separate pivoting mount. To gain advantage through multiple components, the input device may be divided into a body which pivotally attaches to the bag front and a removable insert which may be adapted to alternatively accept typed or written input. Thus, the input device may be quickly changed from a cover to a keyboard or to an electronic write pad.

Claims

1. An input output device for mobile use comprising:

a) a bag having a front wall, an opposing back wall, side walls, a bottom wall and a top wall including a top opening for providing access to the interior of the bag wherein each wall has an inside surface and an outside surface;

b) a manual character input device having an attachment edge, opposite distal edge, two side edges and back side and a front side wherein the manual character input device is attached to pivot on a horizontal axis on the bag front wall outside surface; and

c) an electrical connection leading from the manual character input device to the computer equipment mounting area.

2. The input output device of claim 1 further comprising a display panel with a front side, an opposite back side, an attachment edge, a distal edge and two side edges wherein a display is located on the display panel front side and wherein the display panel pivots on a horizontal axis on the outside of the bag'"'"'s front wall from a storage position parallel to and adjacent to the outside of the bag'"'"'s front wall to an operating position away from the bag front with the display in the line of sight of the operator/wearer;

3. The input output device of claim 2 further comprising alignment structures on the manual character input device to match, cover and protect the display panel.

4. The input output device of claim 1 wherein the manual character input device is removable from the bag.

5. The input output device of claim 4 wherein manual character input device is removably attached to the bag with complimentary attachments on the manual character input device attachment edge and on the bag front.

The input output device of claim 1 further comprising a primary cover attached to the outside of the bag front wall and pivoting up on a horizontal axis to cover the upper portion of the bag'"'"'s front wall when in stored position or pivoting down over the lower portion of the bag'"'"'s front wall when in operating position wherein the cover'"'"'s inside surface is facing away from the bag'"'"'s front wall when in operating position.

7. The input output device of claim 6 wherein manual character input device is attached to the bag with complimentary attachments on the manual character input device back side or edges and on the inside surface of the primary cover.

8. The input output device of claim 1 wherein the manual character input device includes a keyboard.

9. The input output device of claim 1 wherein the manual character input device includes an electronic write pad.

10. The input output device of claim 1 further comprising an input/output tool on or near the manual character input device distal edge.

11. The input output device of claim 1 further comprising a computing equipment mounting assembly attached to the bag'"'"'s computer equipment mounting area.

12. An input output device for mobile use comprising:

a) a bag having a front wall, an opposing back wall, side walls, a bottom wall and a top wall including a top opening for providing access to the interior of the bag wherein each wall has an inside surface and an outside surface;

b) a display panel with a front side, an opposite back side, an attachment edge, a distal edge and two side edges wherein a display is located on the display panel front side and wherein the display panel pivots on a horizontal axis on the outside of the bag'"'"'s front wall from a storage position parallel to and adjacent to the outside of the bag'"'"'s front wall to an operating position away from the bag front with the display in the line of sight of the operator/wearer; and

c) a display panel secondary cover having an outward facing surface, an opposite inward facing surface, an attachment edge closest the bag front, a distal edge and two side edges wherein the display panel secondary cover is attached to the outside of the bag'"'"'s front wall between the display panel and the bottom of the bag'"'"'s front wall and pivots on a horizontal axis from a storage position covering the display panel to an operating position exposing the display panel for operation.

13. The input output device of claim 12 further comprising alignment structures on the display panel secondary cover to match, cover and protect the display panel.

14. The input output device of claim 12 wherein the display panel secondary cover is removable from the bag.

15. The input output device of claim 14 wherein display panel secondary cover is attached to the bag with complimentary attachments on the display panel secondary cover attachment edge and on the bag front

The input output device of claim 12 further comprising a primary cover attached to the outside of the bag front wall and pivoting up on a horizontal axis to cover the upper portion of the bag'"'"'s front wall when in stored position or pivoting down over the lower portion of the bag'"'"'s front wall when in operating position wherein the cover'"'"'s inside surface is facing away from the bag'"'"'s front wall when in operating position.

17. The input output device of claim 16 wherein display panel secondary cover is attached to the bag with complimentary attachments on the display panel secondary cover outward facing surface or edges and on the inside surface of the primary cover.

18. The input output device of claim 12 further comprising an electrical connection leading from the display panel secondary cover to the computer equipment mounting area.

19. The input output device of claim 12 further comprising an input/output tool on or near the display panel secondary cover distal edge.

20. The input output device of claim 12 further comprising a computing equipment mounting assembly attached to the bag'"'"'s computer equipment mounting area.

21. An input output device for mobile use comprising:

a) a bag having a front wall, an opposing back wall, side walls, a bottom wall and a top wall including a top opening for providing access to the interior of the bag wherein each wall has an inside surface and an outside surface;

b) a input device body having an attachment edge, opposite distal edge, two side edges and back side and a front side wherein the front side includes a receptacle and wherein the input device body is attached to pivot on a horizontal axis on the bag front wall outside surface;

c) a removable input device insert having input output equipment wherein the insert fits and is held to the input device body receptacle; and

d) an electrical connection leading from the input device insert to the computer equipment mounting area.

The input output device of claim 21 further comprising a display panel with a front side, an opposite back side, an attachment edge, a distal edge and two side edges wherein a display is located on the display panel front side and wherein the display panel pivots on a horizontal axis on the outside of the bag'"'"'s front wall from a storage position parallel to and adjacent to the outside of the bag'"'"'s front wall to an operating position away from the bag front with the display in the line of sight of the operator/wearer;

23. The input output device of claim 22 further comprising alignment structures on the input device body to match, cover and protect the display panel

24. The input output device of claim 21 wherein the input device body is removable from the bag.

25. The input output device of claim 24 wherein input device body is removably attached to the bag with complimentary attachments on the input device body attachment edge and on the bag front.

26. The input output device of claim 21 wherein the input device insert includes a keyboard.

27. The input output device of claim 26 wherein the keyboard is ten keys wide, in the standard QWERTY format and with thumb keys to replace essential keys normally farther to the right and left on a standard keyboard;

28. The input output device of claim 21 wherein the input device insert includes an electronic write pad.

29. The input output device of claim 21 further comprising an input/output tool on or near the input device insert distal edge.

30. The input output device of claim 21 further comprising a primary cover attached to the outside of the bag front wall and pivoting up on a horizontal axis to cover the upper portion of the bag'"'"'s front wall when in stored position or pivoting down over the lower portion of the bag'"'"'s front wall when in operating position wherein the cover'"'"'s inside surface is facing away from the bag'"'"'s front wall when in operating position.

31. The input output device of claim 30 wherein input device body is attached to the bag with complimentary attachments on the input device body back side or edges and on the inside surface of the primary cover.

32. The input output device of claim 21 further comprising an input/output tool on or near the input device body distal edge.

33. The input output device of claim 21 further comprising a computing equipment mounting assembly attached to the bag'"'"'s computer equipment mounting area.
