Abstract

A tooth implant assembly has a base plate, a base attachment fastener a collar a crown attachment fastener, cylindrical insert, and a tooth crown. The base plate has a central opening and a coronal surface. The base attachment fastener is adapted for insertion into and engagement with the central opening in the base plate. The base attachment fastener also has a head with a central bore extending longitudinally into the head. The collar has a longitudinal opening with coronal and apical edges. The collar is disposed on the coronal surface of the base plate. The crown attachment fastener has a threaded distal end adapted for threaded engagement with the central bore of the base attachment fastener. The cylindrical insert is disposed within the collar and supported by the coronal edge of the collar. The insert has a longitudinal channel formed therein for carrying the crown attachment fastener. The tooth crown is supported by and attached to the collar.

Claims

1. A tooth implant assembly comprising:

a base plate having a central opening and a coronal surface;

a base attachment fastener adapted for insertion into and engagement with the central opening in the base plate and having a head with a central bore formed longitudinally in the head of the fastener;

a crown attachment fastener adapted for threaded engagement with the central bore of the base attachment fastener;

crown supporting means carrying the crown attachment fastener and disposed on the coronal surface of the base plate; and

a tooth crown supported by and attached to the crown supporting means.

2. The tooth implant assembly of claim 1 wherein the coronal surface is a flat surface.

3. The tooth implant assembly of claim 1 wherein:

the coronal surface of the base plate includes teeth means for engagement and

the crown support means includes means for engaging the teeth means of the coronal surface.

4. The tooth implant assembly of claim 1 wherein

the coronal surface of the base plate includes a plurality of upstanding studs and

the crown support means includes means for engaging the upstanding studs.

5. The tooth implant assembly of claim 1 wherein the base attachment fastener is a self tapping screw.

6. The tooth implant assembly of claim 1 wherein the base attachment fastener includes a bone screw.

7. The tooth implant assembly of claim 1 wherein:

the base attachment fastener includes a threaded shaft and

the central bore of the base attachment fastener extends into the threaded shaft.

8. The tooth implant assembly of claim 1 wherein:

the central opening of the base plate is countersunk and

the head of the base attachment fastener is a countersink head adapted to fit the countersunk central opening.

9. A tooth implant assembly comprising:

a base plate having a central opening and a coronal surface,

a base attachment fastener adapted for insertion into and engagement with the central opening in the base plate and having a head with a central bore extending longitudinally into the head of the fastener;

a collar having a longitudinal opening with coronal and apical edges, the collar disposed on the coronal surface of the base plate;

a crown attachment fastener having a threaded distal end adapted for threaded engagement with the central bore of the base attachment fastener;

a cylindrical insert disposed within the collar and supported by the coronal edge of the collar, the insert having a longitudinal channel formed therein for carrying the crown attachment fastener; and

a tooth crown supported by and attached to the collar.

10. The tooth implant assembly of claim 9 wherein the coronal surface is a flat surface.

11. The tooth implant assembly of claim 9 wherein:

the coronal surface of the base plate includes teeth means for engagement and

the collar includes means for engaging the teeth means of the coronal surface.

12. The tooth implant assembly of claim 9 wherein

the coronal surface of the base plate includes a plurality of upstanding studs and

the collar includes means for engaging the upstanding studs.

13. The tooth implant assembly of claim 9 wherein the base attachment fastener is a self tapping screw.

14. The tooth implant assembly of claim 9 wherein the base attachment fastener includes a bone screw.

15. The tooth implant assembly of claim 9 wherein:

the base attachment fastener includes a threaded shaft and

the central bore of the base attachment fastener extends into the threaded shaft.

16. The tooth implant assembly of claim 9 wherein:

the central opening of the base plate is countersunk and

the head of the base attachment fastener is a countersink head adapted to fit the countersunk central opening.

17. The tooth implant assembly of claim 9 wherein the coronal edge is chamfered.

18. The tooth implant assembly of claim 9 wherein the apical edge is chamfered to engage the head of the base attachment fastener.

19. The tooth implant assembly of claim 9 wherein:

the head of the base attachment fastener includes a socket and

the cylindrical insert includes a closed apical end adapted to engage the socket of the base attachment fastener head.

20. A method for installing a tooth implant in a jaw having bone and gum, the method comprising:

fastening a base plate to the jaw;

affixing a collar to the base plate; and

attaching a tooth crown to the collar.

21. The method of claim 20 wherein fastening the base plate to the jaw includes:

drilling a pilot hole, sized to accommodate the internal diameter of a base attachment screw, the hole laterally centered in the jaw;

removing sufficient gum from the jaw to allow the base plate of the implant to seat directly on the bone of the jaw; and

positioning a threaded shaft of the base attachment screw through a central opening in a base of the implant and screwing the screw into the bone of the jaw thereby attaching the base plate to the jaw.

22. The method of claim 20 wherein the base plate is fastened to the jaw with a base attachment fastener having a head with a central bore extending longitudinally into the head and wherein affixing a collar to the base plate includes:

providing a longitudinal opening in the collar

disposing the collar on a coronal surface of the base plate;

inserting a crown attachment fastener through the collar, the crown attachment fastener having a threaded distal end adapted for threaded engagement with the central bore of the base attachment fastener; and

disposing a cylindrical insert within the collar, the insert having a longitudinal channel formed therein for carrying the crown attachment fastener.
