Abstract

An exemplary system for managing an applications and data space includes a strategy layer configured to receive a query statement and to formulate one or more custom queries based on the query statement and a query scheduler layer configured to schedule issuance of the one or more custom queries to one or more query response modules associated with the applications and data space. Other methods, devices and systems are also disclosed.

Claims

1. A computing device comprising:

a processor;

memory; and

control logic to receive a query statement, to formulate one or more queries based on the query statement, to schedule the one or more formulated queries and to distribute the queries to one or more query response modules in an applications and data space that comprises a plurality of servers.

2. The computing device of claim 1 wherein the query response modules comprise event tracing and event detection and response modules.

3. The computing device of claim 1 wherein the applications and data space comprises a server farm.

4. The computing device of claim 1 wherein the applications and data space comprises one or more software as a service applications (SaaS).

5. The computing device of claim 1 further comprising a query module configured to receive query statements written in a language parsable by a language engine.

6. The computing device of claim 1 wherein the one or more formulated queries comprises at least one query selected from a group consisting of a query pertaining to CPU utilization, a query pertaining to memory utilization and a query pertaining to I/O utilization.

7. The computing device of claim 1 further comprising control logic to analyze information responsive to the one or more formulated queries and to provide information germane to scheduling of workload in the applications and data space.

8. The computing device of claim 1 further comprising control logic to analyze information responsive to the one or more formulated queries and to provide information germane to latency in the applications and data space.

9. A system for managing an applications and data space, the system comprising:

a strategy layer configured to receive a query statement and to formulate one or more custom queries based on the query statement; and

a query scheduler layer configured to schedule issuance of the one or more custom queries to one or more query response modules associated with the applications and data space.

10. The system of claim 9 further comprising a data router to route information responsive to the one or more custom queries to the strategy layer.

11. The system of claim 9 wherein the one or more query response modules comprises an operating system level event tracing module.

12. The system of claim 9 wherein the one or more query response modules comprises an event detection and response module.

13. The system of claim 9 wherein the one or more custom queries comprise at least one query selected from a group consisting of a query pertaining to CPU utilization, a query pertaining to memory utilization and a query pertaining to I/O utilization.

14. A method, implemented at least in part by a computing device, the method comprising:

receiving a query about increased workload;

receiving information about workload in an applications and data space that comprises a plurality of servers;

formulating one or more custom queries based in part on the query and the information about workload;

receiving information from the applications and data space, the information responsive to at least the one or more custom queries; and

deciding whether the information responsive to at least the one or more custom queries comprises information sufficient to respond to the query about increased workload.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein the information responsive to at least the one or more custom queries comprises information issued by one or more event tracing modules and/or one or more event detection and response modules.

16. The method of claim 14 wherein the one or more custom queries comprise at least one query selected from a group consisting of a query pertaining to CPU utilization, a query pertaining to memory utilization and a query pertaining to I/O utilization.

17. The method of claim 14 wherein the information sufficient to respond to the query about increased workload comprises a time for processing the increased workload in the applications and data space.

18. A method, implemented at least in part by a computing device, the method comprising:

receiving a query about latency;

receiving information about latency in an applications and data space that comprises a plurality of servers;

formulating one or more custom queries based in part on the query and the information about latency;

receiving information responsive to at least the one or more custom queries; and

deciding whether the information responsive to at least the one or more custom queries comprises information sufficient to respond to the query about increased latency.

19. The method of claim 18 wherein the information responsive to a query comprises information issued by one or more event tracing modules and/or one or more event detection and response modules.

20. The method of claim 18 wherein information sufficient to respond to the query about increased latency comprises a time associated with an expected decrease in latency in the applications and data space.
