Abstract

A device and method for stimulating tissue to improve the resorption kinetics of an active substance.

Claims

1. An infusion set for delivering an active substance to the body of an animal, the infusion set comprising:

a main body including a catheter head that is removably attached to the body of the animal;

a cannula supported on the main body, such that the cannula can puncture into a tissue of the animal to deliver the active substance; and

a device connectable to the main body wherein the device is capable of stimulating the tissue around a puncture site of the cannula to increase the flow of blood and the resorption of an administered active substance.

2. The infusion set of claim 1, wherein the device at least one of vibrates, oscillates, emits thermal radiation, emits ultrasound, and releases substances to a tissue to improve blood flow.

3. The infusion set of claim 1, further comprising engagement means for removably attaching the device to the main body.

4. The infusion set of claim 3, wherein said engagement means is releasable, and the device is designed to be connected to and detached from the main body.

5. The infusion set of claim 1, wherein the main body further comprises a base plate from which the cannula projects, the cannula engaging through the base plate and protruding into a coupling area.

6. The infusion set of claim 5, wherein the device can be mounted substantially with a cross-sectional form fit onto the main body and the base plate, such that it bears on the main body.

The infusion set of claim 5, further comprising at least one of a self-adhesive layer and Velcro-type means to removably connect the device one of a main body or a base plate, the complementary parts of said a self-adhesive layer and Velcro-type means on the upper face of a base plate and the underside of the device.

8. The infusion set of claim 1, wherein the device is disc-shaped, and can be pushed or plugged onto a main body.

9. The infusion set of claim 1, wherein the device further comprises an energy supply in the form of one of an accumulator and/or energy-storing cells.

10. The infusion set of claim 1, wherein the device further comprises a lead for carrying at least one of electrical energy and control signals.

11. The infusion set of claim 10, wherein the lead is one of connected to a infusion set tubing or formed in one piece with the tubing.

12. The infusion set of claim 1, wherein the underside of the device has projections that are directed toward the tissue to be stimulated.

13. The infusion set of claim 1, wherein the projections comprise means for at least one of radiating heat, transmitting heat, releasing chemical substances and emitting electrical stimulating currents.

14. The infusion set of claim 1, wherein the device comprises resistance wires.

15. The infusion set of claim 1, wherein the device has the shape of a flat disc and has a generally central cutout through which the cannula of a main body can engage into underlying tissue.

16. A method of infusing an active substance into a body of an animal using an infusion set, the infusion set comprising a main body and a cannula supported on the main body, the method comprising:

connecting a device to the main body;

stimulating a tissue around a puncture site of the cannula by using the device to increase the flow of blood and the resorption of an administered active substance.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the device at least one of vibrates, oscillates, emits thermal radiation, emits ultrasound and releases substances that improve blood flow.

18. The method of claim 16, wherein the device is removably attached to the main body by engagement means that interacts with a corresponding engagement means of the main body to secure the device around a main body.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the engagement means are releasable, and the device is designed to be connected to and detached from the main body.

20. The method of claim 16, wherein the main body further comprises a base plate from which the cannula projects, the cannula engaging through the base plate and protruding into a coupling area.

21. The method of claim 20, wherein the device can be mounted substantially with a cross-sectional form fit onto the main body and the base plate, such that it bears on the main body.

22. The method of claim 20, further comprising at least one of a self-adhesive layer or Velcro-type means to removably connect the device on a main body or a base plate, said self-adhesive layer and Velcro-type means on the upper face of a base plate and/or on the underside of the device.

23. The method of claim 16, wherein the device is disc-shaped, and can be pushed or plugged onto a main body.

24. The method of claim 16, wherein the device further comprises an energy supply comprising at least one of an accumulator or energy-storing cells.

25. The method of claim 16, wherein the device further comprises a lead for carrying at least one of electrical energy and control signals.

26. The method of claim 25, wherein the lead is one of connected to a infusion set tubing or formed in one piece with the tubing.

27. The method of claim 16, wherein the underside of the device comprises projections directed toward the tissue to be stimulated.

28. The method of claim 27, wherein the projections comprise means for at least one of radiating heat, transmitting heat, releasing chemical substances, and emitting electrical stimulating currents.

29. The method of claim 16, wherein the device comprises resistance wires.

30. The method of claim 16, wherein the device has the shape of a flat disc and has a generally central cutout through which a cannula of the main body can engage into underlying tissue.
