Abstract

The present invention is directed to security systems for community based managed health kiosk systems, and more particularly to protecting the privacy of a user'"'"'s health information originally obtained at a community-based kiosk system. The disclosed security systems can be combined with community based managed health kiosk systems to enable a patient, or user, to obtain knowledge of his or her health condition/status and to obtain health services from remotely located health care professionals without risk of dissemination of confidential personal health information and records.

Claims

1. A security system for a health information and screening kiosk, comprising:

a kiosk system, including three or more input devices receiving one or more pieces of health information from a user and one or more pieces of personal identification information from a user, and a network connection transmitting the one or more pieces of health information and the one or more pieces of personal identification information, the kiosk system determining whether the user has provided a proper identification by analyzing the one or more pieces of personal identification information; and

a storage system communicatively coupled to the network connection of the kiosk system and securely receiving the one or more pieces of health information and the one or more pieces of personal identification information and storing the one or more pieces of health information and the one or more pieces of personal identification information in a personal health record.

2. The system as recited in claim 1, wherein the one or more pieces of health information and the one or more pieces of personal identification information are encrypted utilizing an encryption process prior to being transmitted by the network connection.

3. The system as recited in claim 2, wherein the encryption process uses a secure socket layer format.

4. The system as recited in claim 1, wherein the storage system is distributed over one or more hubs with a copy of the personal health record stored at each of the one or more hubs.

5. The system as recited in claim 4, wherein the one or more hubs are part of a larger hub that receives and stores a plurality of personal health records for a plurality of users located throughout a geographic area.

6. The system as recited in claim 1, wherein the storage system is part of a personal health record deposit website configured to securely receive, store, and make available a plurality of personal health records from a plurality of users.

7. The system as recited in claim 1, wherein the storage system transmits the personal health record to one or more discrete locations based upon a storage location instruction received from the user through the three or more input devices.

8. The system as recited in claim 7, wherein the discrete locations include a user website.

9. The system as recited in claim 7, wherein the discrete locations include a user personal computer.

The system as recited in claim 1, further comprising a research database system communicatively coupled to the network connection and securely receiving the one or more pieces of health information, storing the one or more pieces of health information with a plurality of pieces of health information received from a plurality of users in an aggregated health data record, and making the aggregated health data record available for a researcher.

11. The system as recited in claim 10, wherein the one or more pieces of health information and the plurality of pieces of health information in the aggregated health data record cannot be linked to the user or any one user among the plurality of users for privacy and security purposes.

12. The system as recited in claim 1, wherein the kiosk system further receives permission from the user through one of the three or more input devices to allow a remotely located health care professional to access the personal health record.

The system as recited in claim 1, wherein the one or more pieces of personal identification information include a photo identification card, the photo identification card including a photograph of the user, the kiosk system further including a camera that captures an image of the user, the kiosk system using the image when determining whether the user has provided a proper identification.

The system as recited in claim 1, wherein the three or more input devices include a signature pad receiving a signature from the user, a keyboard receiving a PIN number from the user, and a card reader reading an access card, the access card storing the one or more pieces of personal identification information of the user as one or more pieces of stored personal identification information.

15. The system as recited in claim 14, wherein the signature is used when determining whether the user has provided a proper identification by comparing the signature to a stored signature, the stored signature being part of the personal health record.

16. The system as recited in claim 14, wherein the PIN number is used when determining whether the user has provided a proper identification by comparing the PIN number to a stored PIN number, the stored PIN number being part of the personal health record.

17. The system as recited in claim 14, wherein the one or more pieces of personal identification information of the user is used when determining whether the user has provided a proper identification by comparing the one or more pieces of personal identification information of the user to one or more pieces of stored personal identification information, the one or more pieces of stored personal identification information being part of the personal health record.

18. The system as recited in claim 1, wherein the three or more input devices include a signature pad receiving a signature from the user, a keyboard receiving a PIN number from the user, and a thumbprint reader receiving a thumbprint image from the user.

19. The system as recited in claim 18, wherein the signature is used when determining whether the user has provided a proper identification by comparing the signature to a stored signature, the stored signature being part of the personal health record.

20. The system as recited in claim 18, wherein the PIN number is used when determining whether the user has provided a proper identification by comparing the PIN number to a stored PIN number, the stored PIN number being part of the personal health record.

21. The system as recited in claim 20, wherein the thumbprint image is used when determining whether the user has provided a proper identification by comparing the thumbprint image to a stored thumbprint image, the stored thumbprint image being part of the personal health record.

The system as recited in claim 1, wherein the three or more input devices include a signature pad receiving a signature from the user, a card reader reading an access card, the access card storing the one or more pieces of personal identification information of the user as one or more pieces of stored personal identification information, and a thumbprint reader receiving a thumbprint image from the user.

23. The system as recited in claim 22, wherein the signature is used when determining whether the user has provided a proper identification by comparing the signature to a stored signature, the stored signature being part of the personal health record.

24. The system as recited in claim 20, wherein the thumbprint image is used when determining whether the user has provided a proper identification by comparing the thumbprint image to a stored thumbprint image, the stored thumbprint image being part of the personal health record.

The system as recited in claim 22, wherein the one or more pieces of personal identification information of the user is used when determining whether the user has provided a proper identification by comparing the one or more pieces of identification information of the user to one or more pieces of stored personal identification information, the one or more pieces of stored personal identification information being part of the personal health record.

The system as recited in claim 1, wherein the three or more input devices include a card reader reading an access card, the access card storing the one or more pieces of personal identification information of the user as one or more pieces of stored personal identification information, a keyboard receiving a PIN number from the user, and a thumbprint reader receiving a thumbprint image from the user.

27. The system as recited in claim 26, wherein the PIN number is used when determining whether the user has provided a proper identification by comparing the PIN number to a stored PIN number, the stored PIN number being part of the personal health record.

28. The system as recited in claim 26, wherein the thumbprint image is used when determining whether the user has provided a proper identification by comparing the thumbprint image to a stored thumbprint image, the stored thumbprint image being part of the personal health record.

29. The system as recited in claim 26, wherein the one or more pieces of personal identification information of the user is used when determining whether the user has provided a proper identification by comparing the one or more pieces of personal identification information of the user to one or more pieces of stored personal identification information, the one or more pieces of stored personal identification information being part of the personal health record.

30. A security system for a health information and screening kiosk, comprising:

a kiosk system receiving one or more pieces of health information from a user and including a signature pad receiving a signature from the user, a thumbprint reader receiving a thumbprint image from the user, a keyboard receiving a PIN number from the user, a card reader reading an access card, and a network connection transmitting the one or more pieces of health information, the signature, the thumbprint image, and the PIN number; and

a storage system communicatively coupled to the network connection securely receiving and storing the one or more pieces of health information, the signature, the thumbprint image, and the PIN number in a personal health record.

31. The system as recited in claim 30, the kiosk system determining whether the user has provided proper identification by analyzing the signature, the thumbprint image, the PIN number, and the access card.

32. The system as recited in claim 30, wherein the storage system is distributed over one or more hubs with a copy of the personal health record stored at each of the one or more hubs.

33. The system as recited in claim 32, wherein the one or more hubs are part of a larger hub that receives and stores a plurality of personal health records for a plurality of users located throughout a geographic area.

34. The system as recited in claim 30, wherein the storage system is part of a personal health record deposit website configured to securely receive, store, and make available a plurality of personal health records from a plurality of users.

35. The system as recited in claim 30, wherein the storage system transmits the personal health record to one or more discrete locations based upon a storage location instruction received from the user.

36. The system as recited in claim 35, wherein the one or more discrete locations include a user website.

37. The system as recited in claim 35, wherein the one or more discrete locations include a user personal computer.

38. The system as recited in claim 30, further comprising a research database system communicatively coupled to the network connection securely receiving the one or more pieces of health information, storing the one or more pieces of health information with a plurality of pieces of health information received from a plurality of users in an aggregated health data record, and making the aggregated health date record available for a researcher.

39. The system as recited in claim 38, wherein the one or more pieces of health information and the plurality of pieces of health information in the aggregated health data record cannot be linked to the user or any one user among the plurality of users for privacy and security purposes.

40. The system as recited in claim 30, wherein the kiosk system further includes one or more input devices receiving permission from the user to allow a remotely located health care professional to access the personal health record.

41. The system as recited in claim 30, further comprising a camera capturing an image of the user.

42. The system as recited in claim 41, the kiosk system determining whether the user has provided proper identification by comparing the image of the user to a second image of the user.

43. The system as recited in claim 42, wherein the second image is on a photo identification card.
