Abstract

Provided is a processor for a print engine assembly having a card reader for reading data from a data card. The processor includes a central processor unit having memory units, an orientation sensor, and a number of motor controllers for controlling drive motors of the print engine assembly. The processor also includes a power management circuit for managing power consumption of the print engine assembly. The processor is configured to read the data from a data card with the card reader, the data read from the card instructing the processor in a manner of processing a digital image.

Claims

1. A processor for a print engine assembly having a card reader for reading data from a data card, said processor comprising:

a central processor unit having memory units;

an orientation sensor;

a number of motor controllers for controlling drive motors of the print engine assembly; and

a power management circuit for managing power consumption of the print engine assembly, said processor configured to read the data from a data card with the card reader, the data read from the card instructing the processor in a manner of processing a digital image.

2. The processor as claimed in claim 1, wherein the card reader includes:

a light source configured to emit light onto the card;

a sensor configured to sense light reflected from the card;

focusing means for focusing the light; and

a housing for housing the light source, sensor and focusing means, the housing having an interface to interface the sensor with the processor.

3. The card reader of claim 2, wherein the focusing means includes a translucent portion having a curved circumference to focus light emitted from the light source on the card.

4. The card reader of claim 2, wherein the focusing means includes at least one lens in the housing for focusing the light reflected from the card on the sensor.

5. The card reader of claim 2, wherein the sensor includes a charge coupled device (CCD) configured to supersample a surface of the card.

6. The card reader of claim 2, wherein the light source includes at least one light emitting diode (LED).

7. The card reader of claim 2, having a transport mechanism for transporting the card past the reader.
