Abstract

A liquid crystal display device containing a first polarizing plate, a first retardation film, a liquid crystal cell, a second retardation film, and a second polarizing plate in this order from a light incident side, wherein an absorption axis of the first polarizing plate and an absorption axis of the second polarizing plate are orthogonal to each other, and wherein the first retardation film is configured to change a polarization state of light to a state of a fixed point before the light enters the liquid crystal cell so as to allow the liquid crystal cell transmit the light having the polarization state of the fixed point

Claims

1. A liquid crystal display device comprising:

a first polarizing plate;

a first retardation film;

a liquid crystal cell;

a second retardation film; and

a second polarizing plate in this order from a light incident side,

wherein an absorption axis of the first polarizing plate and an absorption axis of the second polarizing plate are orthogonal to each other, and

wherein the first retardation film is configured to change a polarization state of light to a state of a fixed point before the light enters the liquid crystal cell so as to allow the liquid crystal cell transmit the light having the polarization state of the fixed point.

2. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1, wherein the polarization state of light before the light enters the liquid crystal cell is one of a p-polarized light and a s-polarized light.

3. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1, wherein the first retardation film has a slow axis vertical to the absorption axis of the second polarizing plate located in the light outgoing side, and has an in-plane retardation Re at a wavelength of 550 nm, Re(550), of:

100 nm<

and a retardation Rth in the thickness direction at a wavelength of 550 nm, Rth(550), of;
