Abstract

Embodiments of methods and apparatus for a multiuser sector micro diversity system are described herein. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.

Claims

1. A system comprising:

a base station to generate at least one spatial stream in each sector of a plurality of sectors with subscriber stations, the base station comprising at least two antennas, the base station further comprising;

a V generator to generate a pre-defined pre-coding matrix, V, comprising a predetermined number of columns, each column corresponding to one of the plurality of spatial streams through which data is transmitted from the base station to the subscriber stations;

a feedback channel to receive a combined channel quality indicator, the combined channel quality indicator comprising an estimate of combined channel quality received by at least one of the subscriber stations;

a uniform scheduler to schedule data packets with a common scheduling priority in at least two of the plurality of sectors;

a plurality of resource blocks comprising the plurality of spatial streams, wherein the uniform scheduler schedules data for the at least one of the subscriber stations to each resource block based on the combined channel quality indicator.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the combined channel quality indicator is derived from channel quality indicators measured by the at least one subscriber stations from a home sector and an adjacent sector.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the uniform scheduler jointly schedules the data packets in the spatial streams of at least two of the plurality of sectors for synchronous delivery to the at least one subscriber station.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the uniform scheduler schedules the data packets using proportional fairness principles.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the feedback channel receives a signal from the at least one subscriber station to indicate a home sector.

6. The system of claim 5, wherein the feedback channel receives a signal from the at least one subscriber station to indicate a preferred sector.

7. A method comprising:

identifying a home sector of a base station using a subscriber station, wherein the base station is configured to transmit spatial streams to a home sector and at least one other sector;

measuring channel quality indicator information using the subscriber station, from the home sector and the at least one other sector;

implementing a sector micro diversity mechanism to form a combined channel quality indicator if a home sector channel quality indicator is less than a given threshold;

transmitting the combined channel quality indicator from the subscriber station to the base station, the base station comprising a plurality of antennas; and

receiving a plurality of resource blocks from the base station, wherein the subscriber station is configured to receive the plurality of resource blocks from the spatial streams transmitted by the base station.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the combined channel quality indicator is derived from channel quality indicators measured by the subscriber station from the home sector and the at least one other sector.

9. The system of claim 7, wherein the subscriber station receives synchronous delivery of the plurality of resource blocks from the spatial streams transmitted by the base station.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the plurality of resource blocks is scheduled in the spatial streams according to proportional fairness principles.

11. The system of claim 7, wherein the subscriber station comprises a plurality of antennas.

12. The system of claim 7, further comprising measuring subsequent channel quality indicator information and indicating a preferred sector based on the subsequent channel quality indicator information.

13. An article comprising a storage medium having stored thereon instructions that, when executed by a computing platform, results in:

identifying a home sector of a base station using a subscriber station, wherein the base station is configured to transmit spatial streams to a home sector and at least one other sector;

measuring channel quality indicator information using the subscriber station, from the home sector and the at least one other sector;

implementing a sector micro diversity mechanism to form a combined channel quality indicator if a home sector channel quality indicator is less than a given threshold;

transmitting the combined channel quality indicator from the subscriber station to the base station, the base station comprising a plurality of antennas; and

receiving a plurality of resource blocks from the base station, wherein the subscriber station is configured to receive the plurality of resource blocks from the spatial streams transmitted by the base station.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the combined channel quality indicator is derived from channel quality indicators measured by the subscriber station from the home sector and at least one other sector.

15. The system of claim 13, wherein the subscriber station receives synchronous delivery of the plurality of resource blocks from the spatial streams transmitted by the base station.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the plurality of resource blocks is scheduled in the spatial streams according to proportional fairness principles.

17. The system of claim 13, wherein the subscriber station comprises a plurality of antennas.

18. The system of claim 13, further comprising measuring subsequent channel quality indicator information and indicating a preferred sector based on the subsequent channel quality indicator information.
