1. A system for automatic payment of parking fees for vehicles, the system comprising a plurality of mobile units, each unit being adapted to be positioned in a vehicle, and a base unit being adapted to communicate with the plurality of mobile units, wherein each mobile unit comprises means for determining when the vehicle is in a parked state, and communication means for transmitting this determination to the base unit in form of a plurality of position observables, and wherein the base unit comprises communication means for communicating with the plurality of mobile units, and processor means for processing said position observables so as to determine the position of the vehicle in relation to pre-loaded parking area information stored in or accessible from the base unit.

Abstract
The present invention relates to a method for automatic payment of traffic related fees, such as parking fees and road taxes, for a vehicle, the method comprising the steps of determining the position of the vehicle to be parked, said determining of the position of the vehicle applying information from a first position determining system and a network-based position correction system, determining the time the vehicle has been parked, and completing a payment transaction using a data link between the vehicle and a server, the payment transaction being completed in accordance with the determined position and the parking time of the vehicle. The present invention also relates to a device for carrying out the method.

13. A method for automatic payment of parking fees for vehicles, the method comprising the steps of
providing a mobile unit adapted to be positioned in a vehicle, the mobile unit providing a plurality of position observables per time unit transmitting a number of position observables to a base unit when the mobile unit has determined that the vehicle is in a parked state, and processing, in said base unit, said transmitted position observables so as to determine a first position of the vehicle in relation to pre-loaded parking area information stored in or accessible from the base unit.

31. A mobile unit adapted to be positioned in a vehicle so as to form part of a system for automaticpayment of parking fees for vehicles, the mobile unit comprising position determining means adapted to provide a number of position observables per time unit,
processor means being adapted to determine when the vehicle is in a parked state, said determination being at least partly based on a number of position observables provided by the position determining means, and communication means adapted for communication with one or more base units of the system for automatic payment of parking fees, said communication means at least being adapted to transmit provided position observables to the one or more base units for further processing.
