Abstract

A system and method for providing an infrastructure that can be provisioned for use with dynamic business applications. In accordance with an embodiment, the business application infrastructure comprises a plurality of drop-in components which can be added or provisioned as necessary to create a dynamic business application. For example, an integrated composition environment component can be provisioned to allow end-users to quickly develop business applications from an overall business process perspective. In accordance with other embodiments, the business application infrastructure can incorporate additional components as necessary to better support a particular business application, or a particular execution environment.

Claims

1. A system for providing a business application infrastructure, comprising:

a hosting environment, the hosting environment including one or a plurality of hosting engines that in turn can host one or a plurality of application containers; and

modular components that can be added to, used with, or removed from the application infrastructure in order to provision the hosting environment to suit particular needs of a business process or application.

2. The system of claim 1, further comprising:

a creation environment, including a plurality of components for use in creating software applications;

an execution environment, including a plurality of components for use in executing the software applications;

a governance environment, that ensures security, governance and management over the various components and other resources which the business application infrastructure provides; and

a plurality of customer application services.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the hosting environment includes a plurality of hosting engines and wherein each of the hosting engines utilizes a micro-services architecture that include one or more of OSGi components, a virtual machine, and a virtualization layer.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the system provisions and provisions only those containers and components necessary to suit the particular needs of the business process or application, and if a certain container is not needed, then the system does not provision that container.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the system comprises an asset repository, and is used as an appliance, and wherein the system further comprises a service network that provides service monitoring and discovery to automatically populate the repository with assets that are detected within the environment that is local to the system.

6. A method for providing a business application infrastructure, comprising the steps of:

providing a hosting environment, the hosting environment including one or a plurality of hosting engines that in turn can host one or a plurality of application containers; and

providing modular components that can be added to, used with, or removed from the application infrastructure in order to provision the hosting environment to suit particular needs of a business process or application.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising:

a creation environment, including a plurality of components for use in creating software applications;

an execution environment, including a plurality of components for use in executing the software applications;

a governance environment, that ensures security, governance and management over the various components and other resources which the business application infrastructure provides; and

a plurality of customer application services.

8. The method of claim 6, wherein the hosting environment includes a plurality of hosting engines and wherein each of the hosting engines utilizes a micro-services architecture that include OSGi components, a virtual machine, and a virtualization layer.

9. The method of claim 6, wherein the system provisions and provisions only those containers and components necessary to suit the particular needs of the business process or application, and if a certain container is not needed, then the system does not provision that container.

11. A computer readable medium, including computer readable instructions stored thereon, which when read and executed by a computer, cause the computer to perform the steps comprising:

providing a hosting environment, the hosting environment including one or a plurality of hosting engines that in turn can host one or a plurality of application containers; and

providing modular components that can be added to, used with, or removed from the application infrastructure in order to provision the hosting environment to suit particular needs of a business process or application.

12. The computer readable medium of claim 11, further comprising:

a creation environment, including a plurality of components for use in creating software applications;

an execution environment, including a plurality of components for use in executing the software applications;

a governance environment, that ensures security, governance and management over the various components and other resources which the business application infrastructure provides; and

a plurality of customer application services.

13. The computer readable medium of claim 11, wherein the hosting environment includes a plurality of hosting engines and wherein each of the hosting engines utilizes a micro-services architecture that include OSGi components, a virtual machine, and a virtualization layer.

14.
