1. A method of managing a wireless broadcast communication link, the method comprising:
- configuring a receiver to receive an orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) signal over the wireless communication link;
receiving a broadcast OFDM signal over the wireless communication link from a transmitter in a selected wireless broadcast network;
analyzing the received broadcast OFDM signal to identify desired portions of the OFDM signal; and
entering an active state of the receiver during the desired portions of the OFDM signal and entering a deactivation state of the receiver during other portions of the OFDM signal.

Abstract
A wireless broadcast system that collects content for distribution over a wireless communication network. Multiple independent content streams can be coarsely interleaved by collecting multiple small segments of content of each stream and rearranging them into larger segments, that are interleaved into an aggregate content stream that is broadcast as an identical signal from multiple transmitters. The broadcast signal can also include information about the interleaved content, such as information identifying the occurrence of a later interleaved instance of the same independent content stream in the aggregate content stream, that can be used by a receiver to activate and deactivate portions of a receiver to conserve power.

entering an initialization state in which a receiver is configured to search for and receive an orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) broadcast signal over the wireless communication link that is transmitted from a selected wireless broadcast network; transitioning to a persistent state and in which the receiver is synchronized to the OFDM broadcast signal received from the selected wireless broadcast network, individual content streams are identified in the OFDM broadcast signal, and at least one individual content stream is selected; and transitioning to a time slice state in which an active state of the receiver is entered during time portions of the OFDM broadcast signal that contain the at least one selected individual content stream and a deactivation state of the receiver is entered during other remaining time portions of the OFDM broadcast signal. - View Dependent Claims (19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34)

receiving with a receiver a broadcast signal that includes a plurality of content streams that are coarsely interleaved such that a selected one of the content streams is received as a series of bursts of the selected content steam, each burst being followed by a time interval of the broadcast signal that does not include the selected content stream; extracting timing information from a burst of the selected content stream indicating a time that a subsequent burst of the selected content stream will occur; and entering an active state of the receiver when the timing information indicates that a burst of the selected content stream occurs and entering a deactivation state of the receiver when the timing information indicates that a burst of the selected content stream does not occur. - View Dependent Claims (36)

receiving a plurality of content streams; interleaving the plurality of individual content streams such that the plurality of individual content streams are formatted into an aggregate content stream as a series of interleaved bursts, each burst containing a portion of one of the individual content streams; and including timing information in each burst that indicates a time that a subsequent burst of the same individual content stream is scheduled to occur.
