Abstract

Methods, apparatuses, and techniques for recording a user'"'"'s game play experience. The player'"'"'s game play can be recorded by recording a player'"'"'s commands as the player navigates a game level as well as game data that can include a state of the game and variables, such as random numbers, generated during the game play that were used to control aspects of the game. The recording of the player'"'"'s game play can then be reviewed and shared with others.

Claims

1. A method for recording a user'"'"'s game play, the method comprising:

recording a player'"'"'s commands as the player navigates a game level;

recording a game data as the player navigates the game level; and

determining if the player successfully navigated the game level and if so saving the commands and game kernel.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the game data comprises a state of the game.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the game data comprises random numbers generated during the game play that are used to control aspects of the game.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein a game-play date file comprises the player'"'"'s commands and the game data.

5. A method of rendering a session of a player'"'"'s game play, the method comprising:

retrieving a set of a player'"'"'s commend recorded while the player played a session of the game;

retrieving a set of game data recorded while the player played the session of the game;

rendering the game session using the set of player'"'"'s commands and game-data.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the game data comprises a state of the game.

7. The method of claim 5, wherein the game data comprises variables generated during the game play that control aspects of the game.

8. A method for recording a user'"'"'s game play session, the method comprising:

selecting a desired resolution for recording a player'"'"'s activity as the player navigates a game level;

recording frames of the user'"'"'s game play at the desired resolution of the player'"'"'s activity as the player navigates the game level; and

determining if the player successfully navigated the game level and if so saving the frames.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein selecting a desired resolution comprises determining an amount of available memory.

10. The method of claim 8, further comprising erasing the frames if the player was not successful in navigating the game level.

11. The method of claim 8, wherein saving the frames comprises saving the frames to a hard disk.

12. A console comprising:

a user interface that receives a player'"'"'s commands during playing of a game;

a processor that generates game data used to control aspects of the game;

a memory that stores the player'"'"'s commands and the game data as the player navigates a game level.

13. A console comprising:

a user interface that receives selected levels for rendering a player'"'"'s game play;

a memory interface that retrieves files corresponding to the selected files;

a processor that assembling the retrieved files into a media file and presents the media file to a user.

14. The console of claim 13, wherein the stored files comprise player commands and game data of the player'"'"'s game play.

15. The console of claim 13, wherein the stored files comprise frames of the player'"'"'s game play.
