Abstract

An automated banking machine operates responsive to data read from data bearing records. The machine includes a card reader that is operative to read data from user cards corresponding to financial accounts. The machine includes at least one computer and a plurality of transaction function devices. The machine further includes a plurality of device driver components that generally correspond to each of the transaction function devices. The device drivers are operative responsive to communication from an XFS layer to control the operation of the transaction function devices. The machine operates responsive to markup language documents to accomplish financial transfers.

Claims

1. Apparatus comprising:

an automated banking machine that operates responsive to data read from data bearing records, including;

a card reader, wherein the card reader is operative to read card data from a user card and wherein the card data corresponds to a financial account;

at least one computer;

computer executable instructions including browser software operative in the at least one computer;

a sheet dispenser in operative connection with the at least one computer, wherein the at least one computer is operative to cause the sheet dispenser to dispense at least one sheet from the machine;

wherein the at least one computer is operative to cause financial transfers involving the financial account corresponding to the card data;

wherein at least one of the card reader and the sheet dispenser has at least one condition responsive to operation of the machine, and wherein the at least one computer is operative to cause the machine to send at least one markup language document from the machine, wherein the at least one markup language document includes data corresponding to the at least one condition.

2. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the at least one dispensed sheet has an associated value, and wherein the at least one computer is operative to cause an amount corresponding to the sheet value to be assessed to the financial account.

3. Apparatus comprising:

an automated banking machine that operates responsive to data read from data bearing records, including;

at least one computer, wherein the at least one computer includes computer executable instructions including browser software operative in the at least one computer;

a card reader in operative connection with the at least one computer, wherein the card reader is operative to read card data from a user card, wherein the card data corresponds to a financial account;

a sheet dispenser in operative connection with the at least one computer, wherein the at least one computer is operative responsive to the card data read from the card through operation of the card reader to cause a financial transfer involving the financial account corresponding to the card data;

and wherein operation of the machine is operative to cause at least one of the card reader and the sheet dispenser to have at least one condition;

and wherein the at least one computer is operative to produce at least one markup language document wherein the at least one markup language document includes data corresponding to the at least one condition.

The apparatus according to claim 3 wherein the at least one computer is operative to receive at least one further markup language document, and wherein the at least one computer is operative to process the at least one further markup language document through operation of the browser software, and wherein the browser software is operative to cause the sheet dispenser to dispense at least one sheet from the machine.

5. The apparatus according to claim 4, wherein the at least one sheet has an associated value, and wherein the at least one computer is operative to cause an amount corresponding to the value to be assessed to the financial account corresponding to the card data.

6. Apparatus comprising:

an automated banking machine that operates responsive to data read from data bearing records, including;

a card reader, wherein the card reader is operative to read card data from user cards, wherein the card data corresponds to financial accounts;

at least one computer, wherein the at least one computer is configured to cause the machine to receive at least one markup language document, and wherein the at least one computer is operative responsive to the at least one markup language document to enable operation of the machine to cause at least one financial transfer involving a financial account corresponding to card data read from a user card through operation of the card reader.

The apparatus according to claim 6 wherein the machine includes a note dispenser, and wherein the at least one computer is operative responsive to the at least one markup language document to cause at least one note to be dispensed from the automated banking machine through operation of the note dispenser.

8. The apparatus according to claim 6 wherein the at least one markup language document includes Java script.

The apparatus according to claim 6 wherein the automated banking machine includes at least one transaction function device, wherein in operation of the machine to cause the financial transfer the at least one transaction function device is operated, wherein the at least one markup language document includes instructions, and wherein the instructions cause the at least one computer to enable operation of the at least one transaction function device.

10. The apparatus according to claim 6 wherein the at least one computer includes browser software operating thereon, wherein the at least one markup language document is processed through operation of the browser software.

11. The apparatus according to claim 10 wherein the at least one markup language document includes instructions, and wherein the instructions are executed responsive to operation of the browser software, and wherein the instructions are operative to enable operation of at least one device of the machine.

The apparatus according to claim 9 wherein operation of the at least one transaction function device is operative to cause the machine to have at least one condition, and wherein the at least one computer is operative to generate at least one further markup language document, wherein the at least one markup language document includes data corresponding to the at least one condition.

13. The apparatus according to claim 12 wherein the at least one computer is operative to receive from a first remote computer the at least one markup language document operative to enable the machine to cause the at least one financial transfer, and wherein the at least one computer is operative to cause the at least one further markup language document to be sent from the machine to a second remote computer different from the first remote computer.

14. A method carried out with an automated banking machine that operates responsive to data read from data bearing records, comprising:

(a) operating at least one computer in an automated banking machine, wherein the automated banking machine includes a card reader operative to read card data from a user card corresponding to a financial account and a sheet dispenser, and wherein the at least one computer is operative to cause a financial transfer involving the financial account corresponding to the card data;

(b) responsive to at least one condition of the automated banking machine that occurs responsive to operation of the machine, operating the at least one computer to produce at least one markup language document, wherein the at least one markup language document includes data corresponding to the at least one condition.

15. The method according to claim 14 and further comprising:

(c) operating the at least one computer to cause at least one first message to be sent from the automated banking machine to at least one first computer remote from the machine, wherein the at least one first message includes the at least one markup language document.

16. The method according to claim 15 wherein the automated banking machine communicates with at least one remote financial computer to cause the financial transfer, and wherein in (c) the at least one first computer includes a computer other than the at least one remote financial computer.

17. The method according to claim 14 wherein in (b) the at least one condition corresponds to a status of at least one device included in the machine.

18. The method according to claim 16 wherein in (b) the at least one condition corresponds to a fault of at least one device in the machine.

19. The method according to claim 18 wherein the sheet dispenser comprises a cash dispenser and wherein in (b) the at least one condition corresponds to a status associated with the cash dispenser.

20. The method according to claim 16 and further comprising:

(d) operating the at least one computer of the machine to cause the machine to receive at least one markup language document from the at least one remote financial computer;

(e) operating the at least one computer in the machine responsive to the at least one markup language document received in (d) to cause the automated banking machine to operate at least one device of the machine.

21. The method according to claim 16 and further comprising:

(d) operating the at least one computer of the machine to cause the machine to receive at least one markup language document;

(e) operating the at least one computer in the banking machine responsive to the at least one markup language document received in (d) to cause the automated banking machine to modify operation of at least one device in the automated banking machine.

22. The method according to claim 21 wherein in (d) the at least one markup language is received from the at least one first computer.

23. An article of computer readable media bearing computer executable instructions which are operative to cause at least one computer in an automated banking machine that operates responsive to data read from data bearing records, to carry out the method of claim 14.
