Abstract

Some embodiments provide a method of macro cell remapping at a Voice over LTE via Generic Access (VoLGA) access network controller (VANC). The method receives a service request message from a user equipment (UE). The service request message includes macro cell information that includes an identity of a current camping cell. The method maps the macro cell information provided by the UE into a corresponding service area identifier (SAI).

Claims

1. A method of macro cell remapping at a Voice over LTE via Generic Access (VoLGA) access network controller (VANC), the method comprising:

receiving a service request message from a user equipment (UE), the service request message comprising macro cell information comprising an identity of a current camping cell; and

mapping the macro cell information provided by the UE into a corresponding service area identifier (SAI).

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the current camping cell is an evolved Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN) cell.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the identity of a current camping cell is an evolved cell global identifier (ECGI).

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the identity of a current camping cell further comprises a tracking area identifier (TAI).

5. The method of claim 2, wherein the VANC is configured such that the mapping doesn'"'"'t result in a change in location data associated with the UE.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the service request is an initial direct transfer message.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the service request is an Uplink Direct Transfer message.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the service request is a paging response message.

9. A computer readable storage medium of a Voice over LTE via Generic Access (VoLGA) access network controller (VANC) storing a computer program for macro cell remapping, the computer program executable by at least one processor, the computer program comprising:

a set of instructions for receiving a service request message from a user equipment (UE), the service request message comprising macro cell information comprising an identity of a current camping cell; and

a set of instructions for mapping the macro cell information provided by the UE into a corresponding service area identifier (SAI).

10. The computer readable medium of claim 9, wherein the current camping cell is an evolved Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN) cell.

11. The computer readable medium of claim 10, wherein the identity of a current camping cell is an evolved cell global identifier (ECGI).

12. The computer readable medium of claim 11, wherein the identity of a current camping cell further comprises a tracking area identifier (TAI).

13. The computer readable medium of claim 10, wherein the VANC is configured such that the mapping doesn'"'"'t result in a change in location data associated with the UE.

14. The computer readable medium of claim 9, wherein the service request is an initial direct transfer message.

15. The computer readable medium of claim 9, wherein the service request is an Uplink Direct Transfer message.

16. The computer readable medium of claim 9, wherein the service request is a paging response message.
