Abstract

A method for modified dialing behavior includes capturing a dialing stream in a virtual input buffer, comparing the dialing stream of the calling party to a history of dialing streams stored in a database, analyzing the history of dialing streams to determine a desired dialing behavior of the calling party, and passing a modified dialing stream to a mobile operating system based on the determined desired dialing behavior of a calling party.

Claims

1. A method for modified dialing behavior comprising:

capturing a dialing stream in a virtual input buffer;

Comparing the dialing stream of the calling party to a history of dialing streams stored in a database;

analyzing the history of dialing streams to determine a desired dialing behavior of the calling party;

Passing a modified dialing stream to a mobile operating system based on the determined desired dialing behavior of a calling party.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising notifying the calling party that the modified dialing stream has been sent to the mobile operating system.

3. The method of claim 1 further comprising recording the dialing stream of the calling party in a database, and continually revising the dialing behavior based on the additional dialing stream.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the database is located on one of a subscriber interface module, a memory stick, or a handset.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the dialing stream of the calling party is a dialing pattern that is a sequence of characters, numbers, or both which would not be recognized as a valid entry by a telephony network.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the modified dialing stream results in an intentionally dropped call.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the modified dialing stream is sent from a mobile subscriber with insufficient credit to make a call.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein statistically significant historical dialing behaviors and dialing patterns are used to improve the performance of the method.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein business rules validate dialing behavior and dialing patterns prior to passing user input held in the virtual input buffer to a mobile operating system for further call processing.

10. The method of claim 1 further comprising sending a message to the dialed party.

11. The method of claim 10 wherein the message sent is in the form of machine readable code in a network protocol that can be interpreted by one or more network elements.

12. The method of claim 11 wherein the machine readable code message includes a location.

13. The method of claim 11 wherein the machine readable code inside the network protocol is constructed for delivery to a network element which is a USSD service.

14. The method of claim 11 wherein the message is capable of being interpreted by client software resident on the dialed party'"'"'s mobile as the discovery of similar client software.

15. The method of claim 11 further comprising receiving a message in the form of machine readable code in a network protocol from the dialed party'"'"'s mobile client software that acknowledges discovery of the dialing party'"'"'s mobile handset.

55. A computer-readable storage medium having instructions stored thereon which, when loaded onto a computer, cause the computer to perform the method of claim 1.

16. A method for communicating with a calling party, comprising:

Receiving a message from a calling party;

Interpreting the message as a discovery of similar client software operating on the calling party'"'"'s handset;

Sending a discovery message to the calling party to facilitate further communications.

17. The method of claim 16 wherein the received message is interpreted by a dialed party'"'"'s mobile as a command to automatically initiate a call back to the calling party.

18. The method of claim 16 wherein the message sent is in the form of machine readable code in a network protocol that can be interpreted by one or more network elements.

19. The method of claim 18 wherein the machine readable code inside the network protocol is constructed for delivery to a network element which is a USSD service.

20. The method of claim 16 wherein the message received is a text message and the message sent is constructed for delivery to a network element which is a USSD service.

56. A computer-readable storage medium having instructions stored thereon which, when loaded onto a computer, cause the computer to perform the method of claim 16.

21. A method of communication between a calling party and a called party comprising:

Determining a dialing behavior of a calling party;

Analyzing a dialing stream of the calling party with reference to the dialing behavior of the calling party;

Suggesting modified dialing behavior of the called party;

Controlling a modified dialing stream sent to a mobile operator system based on the suggesting step which mimics the determined calling behavior of the calling party.

22. The method of claim 21 wherein the analyzing step indicates that the dialing behavior is indicative of an intentionally dropped call.

23. The method of claim 22 further comprising receiving a comfort message indicating that a missed call message has been sent to the called party.

24. The method of claim 22 further comprising receiving a discovery message from the receiving party indicating that the receiving party also uses a similar client.

25. The method of claim 24 further comprising additional modification of the calling behavior such that a second modified dialing stream is sent to the mobile operating system which uses less network resources.

26. The method of claim 25 wherein the second modified dialing stream is indicative of a USSB service.

27. The method of claim 22 wherein the modified dialing stream includes a command to intentionally drop a call without further input by the calling party.

28. The method of claim 21 wherein the analyzing step indicates that the dialing behavior is indicative of a zero credit call.

29. The method of claim 21 wherein a calling party'"'"'s dialing behavior is modified to press “

immediately after “

to differentiate this dialing pattern from an insufficient credit call dialing pattern.

30. The method of claim 21 wherein the behavior of a user is modified to terminate input sequences with a character, such as* or #, to announce their intention to initiate one or more client services as opposed to initiating network based services by inputting “

Send”

31. The method of claim 30 wherein subsequent characters entered further differentiates unique service types.

32. The method of claim 30 wherein the services are initiated via machine readable code inside a protocol that is constructed for delivery to a network element which is a USSD service element.

57. A computer-readable storage medium having instructions stored thereon which, when loaded onto a computer, cause the computer to perform the method of claim 21.

33. A handset comprising:

A keypad configured for receiving keystrokes from a calling party;

A virtual keystroke buffer;

A memory for recording keystrokes; and

A processor configured for preprocessing the dialing stream;

passing a preprocessed dialing stream to a mobile operating system;

Recording the dialing pattern of the dialing party to a statistical database;

Analyzing the virtual keystroke buffer with reference to the database to determine the dialing behavior of the dialing party; and

Suggesting modified dialing behavior to the calling party.

34. The handset of claim 33 wherein the processor is further configured to send modified dialing streams to the network as a result of the suggesting step.

35. The handset of claim 33 wherein the processor is further configured to receive modified dialing streams from the calling party as a result of the suggesting step.

36. The handset of claim 35 wherein the processor is further configured to send a comfort message to the calling party.

37. The handset of claim 35 wherein the processor is further configured to send a message to a called party requesting a return call.

38. The handset of claim 37 wherein the processor is further configured to receive a discovery message from the called party.

39. The handset of claim 38 wherein the processor is further configured to send a message indicative of a USSB service based.

40. A method for modified dialing behavior comprising:

Capturing a dialing stream input sequence which includes a send command and a “

#”

or “

*”

character and in a virtual input buffer;

Comparing the dialing stream of the calling party to a history of dialing streams stored in a database;

analyzing the history of dialing streams to determine a desired dialing behavior of the calling party;

Passing a modified dialing stream to a mobile operating system based on the determined desired dialing behavior of a calling party.

41. The method of claim 40 wherein based on the modified dialing stream, services are initiated via machine readable code inside a protocol that is constructed for delivery to a network element which is a USSD service element.

42. The method of claim 41 wherein the machine readable code inside a protocol that is constructed for delivery to a network element is subsequently routed to be processed by a service external to and separate from the network.

43. The method of claim 42 wherein the machine readable code includes location information available locally at the mobile device.

44. The method of claim 43 wherein the location information is supplied by a network element.

45. The method of claim 42 wherein the service initiated is to locate the mobile device initiating the service.

46. The method of claim 45 wherein the location information is used to select a location based mobile ad for delivery to mobile user initiating the service.

47. The method of claim 42 wherein the service initiated is to request the location of another mobile device.

48. The method of claim 42 wherein the service initiated is to request navigation directions from the location of the initiating party to the location of another mobile party whose number was dialed.

49. The method of claim 42 wherein when the number dialed is associated with a fixed address.

50. The method of claim 49 wherein the service initiated provides navigation directions to the fixed address to which the dialed number is logically associated.

51. The method of claim 42 wherein a the service includes initiating a more economical long distance service voice call.

52. The method of claim 42 wherein the service includes initiating a voice call over a network connection other than the mobile network connection.

53. The method of claim 52 wherein the network connection is a VoIP call over an available network connection.

54. The method of claim 52 wherein the network connection is a user preferred network connection.

58. A computer-readable storage medium having instructions stored thereon which, when loaded onto a computer, cause the computer to perform the method of claim 40.
