Abstract

An incident recorder records original and supplemental incident information using a simplified user interface.

Claims

1. A user interface for operating a primary subsystem, the primary subsystem performs pre-recording and event recording, the user interface comprising:

a first control; and

a second control;

wherein;

while pre-recording;

an operation of the first control;

discontinues pre-recording; and

continues event recording;

a first operation of the second control discontinues pre-recording; and

a second operation of the second control continues pre-recording;

while event recording;

an operation of the first control records an event marker;

a prolonged operation of the first control for a period;

discontinues event recording; and

continues pre-recording;

a first operation of the second control discontinues event recording; and

a second operation of the second control continues pre-recording.

2. The user interface of claim 1 further comprising a third control, wherein irrespective of whether the primary subsystem continues or discontinues pre-recording and event recording, an operation of the third control toggles operation of a video screen.

3. The user interface of claim 1 further comprising an accelerometer that detects an acceleration of the primary subsystem, wherein:

while pre-recording and upon detecting the acceleration, the primary subsystem;

discontinues pre-recording; and

continues event recording;

4. The user interface of claim 1 wherein the primary subsystem begins pre-recording upon detecting at least one of an application of power to the primary subsystem and an actuation of a touch-screen icon.

5. The user interface of claim 1 wherein pre-recording comprises recording video in a circular buffer.

6. The user interface of claim 1 wherein pre-recording comprises recording video having at a low resolution.

7. The user interface of claim 1 wherein event recording comprises recording video having a high resolution.

8. The user interface of claim 1 wherein at least one of pre-recording and event recording further comprises recording audio.

9. The user interface of claim 8 further comprising a third control, wherein an operation of the third control activates a microphone positioned proximate to a mouth of an operator for recording audio from the operator.

10. The user interface of claim 1 further comprising a hub having a first control and a second control, wherein:

the hub communicates with the primary subsystem; and

an operation of at least one of the first control and the second control of the hub performs an operation of the first control and the second control respectively of the primary subsystem.

11. The user interface of claim 1 wherein the primary subsystem comprises an incident recorder.

12. A method performed by a user interface for operating a primary subsystem, the primary subsystem performs pre-recording and event recording, the method comprising:

while pre-recording;

upon detecting an operation of a first control;

discontinuing pre-recording; and

continuing event recording;

upon detecting a first operation of a second control discontinuing pre-recording; and

upon detecting a second operation of a second control continuing pre-recording;

while event recording;

upon detecting an operation of a first control, recording an event marker;

upon detecting a prolonged operation of a first control for a period,

discontinuing event recording; and

continuing pre-recording;

upon detecting a first operation of a second control discontinuing event recording; and

upon detecting a second operation of a second control continuing pre-recording.
