Abstract

An incentive-based waste reduction system and method thereof are disclosed herein. In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, an incentive-based waste reduction system comprises a collection means comprising at least a load-determining device, the collection means for obtaining a quantifiable measure of waste material from an entity, a value associated with the quantifiable measure of waste material, an adjustment factor for adjusting the value associated with the quantifiable measure of waste material, determined from an algorithm, the algorithm taking as an input at least a predetermined factor, a credit value associated with at least a quantifiable measure of deposited waste material, and a reward value associated with the credit value.

Claims

1. An incentive-based waste reduction system comprising:

a collection means comprising at least a load-determining device, the collection means for obtaining a quantifiable measure of waste material from an entity;

a value associated with the quantifiable measure of waste material;

an adjustment factor for adjusting the value associated with the quantifiable measure of waste material, determined from an algorithm, the algorithm taking as an input at least a predetermined factor;

a credit value associated with at least a quantifiable measure of deposited waste material; and

a reward value associated with the credit value.

2. The incentive-based waste reduction system of claim 1, wherein the adjustment factor comprises at least one of a disposal allotment value or a diversion ratio.

The incentive-based waste reduction system of claim 2, wherein the adjustment factor increases the desirability of one or more values when a quantifiable measure of deposited material is more desirable as compared to the adjustment factor and decreases the desirability of one or more values when a quantifiable measure of deposited material is less desirable as compared to the adjustment factor.

4. A method for implementing an incentive-based waste reduction system comprising the steps of:

collecting at least a quantifiable measure of deposited waste material associated with an entity;

obtaining and recording one or more values associated with at least a quantifiable measure of deposited waste material;

adjusting one or more values associated with at least a quantifiable measure of deposited material based on a predetermined disposal allotment value;

associating a credit with one or more values associated with at least a quantifiable measure of deposited waste material; and

distributing a credit to the entity.

5. The method of claim 4, further comprising the step of obtaining and recording information for identifying an entity.

6. The method of claim 4, further comprising the step of distributing one or more rewards to an entity.

7. The method of claim 4, wherein one or more credits are redeemable for financial credit.

8. The method of claim 4, wherein one or more credit values have at least one of a minimum value and a maximum value.

The method of claim 4, wherein the step of adjusting one or more values associated with the quantifiable measure of deposited material based on a predetermined disposal allotment value further comprises increasing the desirability of one or more credit values when a quantifiable measure of deposited material is more desirable as compared to the entity'"'"'s predetermined disposal allotment value and decreasing the desirability of one or more credit values when a quantifiable measure of deposited material is less desirable as compared to the entity'"'"'s predetermined disposal allotment value.

10. A method for implementing an incentive-based diversion system comprising the steps of:

collecting a quantifiable measure of deposited waste material;

collecting a quantifiable measure of deposited recyclable material;

obtaining one or more values associated with the quantifiable measure of deposited waste material;

obtaining one or more values associated with the quantifiable measure of deposited recyclable material;

adjusting one or more values associated with at least one of the quantifiable measure of deposited waste material and the quantifiable measure of deposited recyclable material based on a predetermined diversion ratio;

associating a credit with one or more values associated with at least one of the quantifiable measure of deposited waste material and the quantifiable measure of deposited recyclable material; and

distributing a credit to the entity.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising the step of obtaining and recording information for identifying an entity.

12. The method of claim 10, further comprising the step of distributing one or more rewards to an entity.

13. The method of claim 10, wherein one or more credits are redeemable for financial credit.

14. The method of claim 10, wherein one or more credit values may have at least one of a minimum value and a maximum value.

The method of claim 10, wherein the step of adjusting one or more values associated with at least one of the quantifiable measure of deposited waste material and the quantifiable measure of deposited recyclable material based on a predetermined diversion ratio further comprises increasing the desirability of one or more values when a diversion ratio associated with an entity is less than a predetermined value and decreasing the desirability of one or more values when a diversion ratio associated with an entity is more than a predetermined value.

16. A tangible computer-readable medium comprising program instructions, wherein the program instructions are computer-executable to implement:

inputting data associated with at least one of a quantifiable measure of deposited waste material and a quantifiable measure of deposited recyclable material;

obtaining one or more values associated with at least one of the quantifiable measure of deposited waste material and the quantifiable measure of deposited recyclable material;

adjusting one or more values associated with at least one of a quantifiable measure of deposited waste material and a quantifiable measure of deposited recyclable material based on a predetermined factor;

associating a credit with one or more values associated with at least one of the quantifiable measure of deposited waste material and the quantifiable measure of deposited recyclable material; and

distributing a credit to the entity.

17. The tangible computer-readable medium of claim 16, wherein the predetermined factor comprises at least one of a predetermined disposal allotment value or a predetermined diversion ratio.

18. The tangible computer-readable medium of claim 16, wherein the program instructions are computer-executable to further implement allowing access to information associated with the entity'"'"'s account via a global computer network communication link.

19. The tangible computer-readable medium of claim 16, wherein the program instructions are computer-executable to further implement generating one or more reports containing data associated with an entity'"'"'s account, hauler information, waste disposal information, or any combination thereof.

20. The tangible computer-readable medium of claim 16, wherein the program instructions are computer-executable to further implement distributing one or more rewards to an entity.
