Abstract

This invention relates to the use of sulfonamide substituted diphenyl urea compounds to treat endometriosis.

Claims

1. A method of treating endometriosis in a woman in need thereof which comprises administering to said woman an effective amount of a compound which is N-[4-chloro-2-hydroxy-3-(piperazine-1-sulfonyl)phenyl]-N′

-(2-chloro-3-fluorophenyl)urea or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

2. The method according to claim 1 wherein the compound is N-[4-chloro-2-hydroxy-3-(piperazine-1-sulfonyl)phenyl]-N′

-(2-chloro-3-fluorophenyl)urea hydrochloride.

3. The method according to claim 1 wherein the compound is N-[4-chloro-2-hydroxy-3-(piperazine-1-sulfonyl)phenyl]-N′

-(2-chloro-3-fluorophenyl)urea p-toluenesulfonate.

4. The method according to claim 1 wherein the compound is administered orally.

5. A method of preventing endometriosis in a woman at higher than normal risk of developing endometriosis which comprises administering to said woman an effective amount of a compound which is N-[4-chloro-2-hydroxy-3-(piperazine-1-sulfonyl)phenyl]-N′

-(2-chloro-3-fluorophenyl)urea or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

6. The method according to claim 5 wherein the compound is N-[4-chloro-2-hydroxy-3-(piperazine-1-sulfonyl)phenyl]-N′

-(2-chloro-3-fluorophenyl)urea hydrochloride.

7. The method according to claim 5 wherein the compound is N-[4-chloro-2-hydroxy-3-(piperazine-1-sulfonyl)phenyl]-N′

-(2-chloro-3-fluorophenyl)urea p-toluenesulfonate.

8. The method according to claim 5 wherein the compound is administered orally.
