Abstract

The visual and cognitive skills of a subject may be tested and/or trained by providing a visual stimulus to a subject. More particularly, a subject may be tested and/or trained when under a stress condition to determine the effect of a stress condition, such as a physical stress or a cognitive stress, on the subject'"'"'s visual and sensory skills. A response may be received from a subject via an input device, the appropriateness of which may depend upon the stimulus provided to the subject. Behavioral information and other data regarding the performance of a subject and the possible effect of the stress condition may be recorded. Scoring may be based upon the speed, accuracy, and other aspects of the performance of a subject.

Claims

1. A method for visual and cognitive testing or training, the method comprising:

subjecting a test subject to a stress condition;

displaying a stimulus to the test subject on a display device;

determining an appropriate response to the visual stimulus;

receiving a response from the test subject; and

determining whether the response received from the test subject is the appropriate response.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the stress condition comprises a physical stress.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the physical stress comprises an aerobic stress.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the physical stress comprises an anaerobic stress.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising ending the stress condition on the test subject prior to displaying the visual stimulus to the test subject.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising ending the stress condition on the test subject after receiving the response from the test subject.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein subjecting a test subject to a stress condition occurs simultaneously to displaying a stimulus to a test subject.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein subjecting a test subject to a stress condition occurs simultaneously to displaying a stimulus to a test subject and receiving a response from the test subject.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving a response from the test subject comprises receiving a user touch on the display device.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving a response from the test subject comprises receiving an input from an audio input device.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving a response from the test subject comprises receiving an input from a motor input device.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the stimulus comprises an indicia testing the vision of the test subject.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the stimulus comprises an indicia testing the cognition of the test subject.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the indicia comprises an arithmetic test.

15. The method of claim 13, wherein the indicia comprises a verbal test.

16. The method of claim 13, wherein the indicia comprises a directional test.

17. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving eye movement information from the test subject.

18. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving head movement information from the test subject.

19. A system for visual and cognitive testing or training, the system comprising:

a display device;

a device inducing stress in a test subject; and

a test unit communicatively coupled to the display device.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein the test unit is communicatively coupled to the stress-inducing device.

21. The system of claim 19, further comprising an input device, wherein the input device communicatively coupled to the test unit receives an input from the test subject.

22. The system of claim 19, wherein the display device displays a visual stimulus to the test subject.

23. The system of claim 19, wherein the display device is an input device.

24. A method for visual and cognitive testing or training, the method comprising:

administering a first test to a test subject to produce first test results, wherein the first test comprises at least one of a visual test and a cognitive test;

recording the first test results;

subjecting the test subject to a stress condition;

administering a second test to the test subject to produce second test results, wherein the second test comprises at least one of a visual test and a cognitive test;

recording the second test results; and

determining the difference between the first test results and the second test results.

25. The method of claim 24, wherein the stress condition comprises a physical stress.

26. The method of claim 25, wherein the physical stress comprises an aerobic stress.

27. The method of claim 25, wherein the physical stress comprises an anaerobic stress.

28. The method of claim 24, wherein at least one of the first test and the second test comprises a vision test.

29. The method of claim 24, wherein at least one of the first test and second test comprises a cognitive test.

30. The method of claim 29, wherein the cognitive test comprises an arithmetic test.

31. The method of claim 29, wherein the cognitive test comprises a verbal test.

32. The method of claim 29, wherein the cognitive test comprises a directional test.
