Abstract

The various embodiments of the present invention may be directed to a system for facilitating data processing in a visual manner. An application may include, inter alia, a basket component for visually representing the particular data items that a user desires to be processed by an application. The application may allow a user to initially search for data items that may be of interest (e.g., points-of-interest or POIs). A user may select POIs to obtain additional descriptive information regarding each data item. If the selected POI is to be included in processing, a user may drag the visual representation of the POI into the basket component. When the basket component contains all POIs desired for processing, the user may further instruct the application to formulate a result that is a composite of some or all of the POIs in the basket component.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

displaying a basket component in an application, the basket component including at least a visual representation of a container configured to accept interest information;

formulating interest information comprising one or more points of interest, each of the one or more points of interest comprising at least descriptive information;

displaying the interest information;

selecting at least one point of interest from the formulated interest information;

dragging the at least one selected point of interest into the basket component;

formulating composite information based on the selected points of interest in the basket component; and

displaying the composite information.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the application is at least one of an executable program on a wireless device or a browser application for accessing Internet web pages.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein formulating interested information comprises executing a query based on parameters configured in an application interface by a user.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein displaying the interest information includes displaying each of the point of interest including some of its descriptive information.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein selecting the at least one a point of interest triggers the display of the descriptive information related to the at least one selected point of interest.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein dragging the at least one selected point of interest comprises selecting the visual representation of the point of interest using a computer pointing device and moving it into the visual representation of the basket component.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein formulating composite information includes combining the point of interest information contained in the basket component into an integrated visual representation.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising saving the point of interest content of the basket component data collection on a remote resource.

9. A computer program product comprising a computer readable medium having a computer executable program code embodied in said medium, comprising:

a computer executable program code configured to display a basket component in an application, the basket component including at least a visual representation of a container configured to accept interest information;

a computer executable program code configured to formulate interest information comprising one or more points of interest, each of the one or more points of interest comprising at least descriptive information;

a computer executable program code configured to display the interest information;

a computer executable program code configured to select at least one point of interest from the formulated interest information;

a computer executable program code configured to drag the at least one selected point of interest into the basket component;

a computer executable program code configured to formulate composite information based on the selected points of interest in the basket component; and

a computer executable program code configured to display the composite information.

10. The computer program product of 9, wherein the application is at least one of an executable program on a wireless device or a browser application for accessing Internet web pages.

11. The computer program product of 9, wherein formulating interested information comprises executing a query based on parameters configured in an application interface by a user.

12. The computer program product of 9, wherein displaying the interest information includes displaying each of the point of interest including some of its descriptive information.

13. The computer program product of 9, wherein selecting the at least one a point of interest triggers the display of the descriptive information related to the at least one selected point of interest.

14. The computer program product of 9, wherein dragging the at least one selected point of interest comprises selecting the visual representation of the point of interest using a computer pointing device and moving it into the visual representation of the basket component.

15. The computer program product of 9, wherein formulating composite information includes combining the point of interest information contained in the basket component into an integrated visual representation.

16. The computer program product of 9, further comprising saving the point of interest content of the basket component data collection on a remote resource.

17. An apparatus, comprising:

a communication module configured to support wired or wireless communication;

a display;

a user interface; and

a controller, the controller being configured to;

displaying a basket component in an application, the basket component including at least a visual representation of a container configured to accept interest information;

formulating interest information comprising one or more points of interest, each of the one or more points of interest comprising at least descriptive information;

displaying the interest information;

selecting at least one point of interest from the formulated interest information;

dragging the at least one selected point of interest into the basket component;

formulating composite information based on the selected points of interest in the basket component; and

displaying the composite information.

18. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the application is at least one of an executable program on a wireless device or a browser application for accessing Internet web pages.

19. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein formulating interested information comprises executing a query based on parameters configured in an application interface by a user.

20. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein displaying the interest information includes displaying each of the point of interest including some of its descriptive information.

21. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein selecting the at least one a point of interest triggers the display of the descriptive information related to the at least one selected point of interest.

22. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein dragging the at least one selected point of interest comprises selecting the visual representation of the point of interest using a computer pointing device and moving it into the visual representation of the basket component.

23. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein formulating composite information includes combining the point of interest information contained in the basket component into an integrated visual representation.

24. The apparatus of claim 17, further comprising saving the point of interest content of the basket component data collection on a remote resource.

25. An apparatus, comprising:

means for displaying a basket component in an application, the basket component including at least a visual representation of a container configured to accept interest information;

means for formulating interest information comprising one or more points of interest, each of the one or more points of interest comprising at least descriptive information;

means for displaying the interest information;

means for selecting at least one point of interest from the formulated interest information;

means for dragging the at least one selected point of interest into the basket component;

means for formulating composite information based on the selected points of interest in the basket component; and

means for displaying the composite information.

26. A system comprising:

At least one apparatus;

the at least one apparatus displaying a basket component in an application, the basket component including at least a visual representation of a container configured to accept interest information;

the at least one apparatus formulating interest information, based on a user configuration, comprising one or more points of interest to the user, each of the one or more points of interest comprising at least descriptive information;

the at least one apparatus displaying the interest information to the user, the user further selecting at least one point of interest from the formulated interest information;

the user further dragging the at least one selected point of interest into the basket component and triggering the at least one apparatus to formulate composite information based on the selected points of interest in the basket component; and

the at least one apparatus displaying the composite information to the user.

27. An interface architecture, comprising:

a basket component integrated within a user interface for an application configured to formulate user-selected data items into a map, the basket component being configured to receive the user-selected data items via a drag-and-drop interface activity.

28. The interface architecture of claim 27, wherein each of the user-selected data items represent a point-of-interest to be used in formulating the map, each of the user-selected data items comprising at least information describing the corresponding point-of-interest.

29. The interface architecture of claim 28, wherein each user selected data item is represented by a point-of-interest included in the map formulated by the application.

30. The interface architecture of claim 29, wherein the point-of interest representations are used to form a travel route connecting two or more adjacent representations on the map.

31. A chipset, comprising:

a processor; and

at least one memory, the at least one memory being configured with computer readable program code that, when executed by the processor;

activates an application configured to formulate user-selected data items into a map; and

displays a user interface for the application, the user interface including at least a basket component configured to receive one or more data items via a drag-and-drop interface activity.

32. A computer program product comprising a computer readable program code embodied on a computer readable medium, comprising:

a computer readable program code configured to activate an application configured to formulate user-selected data items into a map; and

a computer readable program code configured to display a user interface for the application, the user interface including at least a basket component configured to receive one or more data items via a drag-and-drop interface activity.
