providing the advertising information to a consumer.

The present invention relates generally to deriving identifying data from sample values representing video or audio. One claim recites a method including: obtaining identifying data from an electronic processor that derives the identifying data from sample values representing audio or video; providing the identifying data to a database; receiving advertising information from the database, the advertising information being associated with the audio or video, and the advertising information having been identified in the database utilizing at least the identifying data; and providing the advertising information to a consumer.
