A device for real time detection of an upper respiratory system condition in a horse, comprising a monitor of a size permitting positioning of the monitor in an upper throat region of a horse via a nasal cavity, wherein the monitor is operable to obtain visual and sound events in an upper throat region of a horse, a sleeve operable to insert the monitor into and position the monitor within an upper throat region of a horse via a nasal cavity, and a transmitter operable to wirelessly transmit video and sound signals from the monitor to a receiver remote from the horse.
