1. A system for active detection of asymmetry in a rotating structure, the system comprising:
- at least one actuator for introducing mechanical force that imparts harmonic mechanical excitation on the rotating structure that is asynchronous to the speed of rotation of the structure;
at least one of a plurality of sensors for sensing a response from the excited rotating body in the form of vibrations of the rotating structure;
a signal processing unit for receiving the response and for analyzing the response to determine a presence of modulation of the imparted harmonic mechanical excitation, that causes vibration at a frequency that is a combination of both the harmonic mechanical excitation and the modulating speed of rotation.
