Abstract

A vehicle seat assembly is provided with a structural member adapted to be mounted within a vehicle to provide support to an occupant. The structural member has at least one channel formed therein. A cushion member is provided adjacent to the structural layer. The cushion member has at least one channel formed therethrough. A trim member is secured over the cushion member to form a seating surface. At least one attachment member is mounted to the trim member extending through the at least one channel of the cushion member. The at least one attachment member extends into the at least one channel of the structural member such that at least one of the trim material and the cushion layer is retained on the structural member.

Claims

1. A vehicle seat assembly comprising:

a structural member adapted to be mounted within a vehicle to provide support to an occupant, the structural member having at least one channel formed therein;

a cushion member provided adjacent to the structural layer, the cushion member having at least one channel formed therethrough;

a trim member secured over the cushion member to form a seating surface; and

at least one attachment member mounted to the trim member extending through the at least one channel of the cushion member and extending into the at least one channel of the structural member such that at least one of the trim material and the cushion layer is retained on the structural member.

2. The vehicle seat assembly of claim 1 wherein the at least one channel formed in the structural member is further defined as at least one channel formed through the structural member.

3. The vehicle seat assembly of claim 2 wherein the structural member further comprises an upper surface to abut the cushion member and a lower abutment surface provided opposite the upper surface such that the at least one attachment member is retained by the lower abutment surface.

4. The vehicle seat assembly of claim 3 wherein the at least one attachment member further comprises a paddle portion in cooperation with an abutment surface of the structural member.

5. The vehicle seat assembly of claim 1 further comprising a locking member to lock the at least one attachment member within the at least one channel in the structural member.

6. The vehicle seat assembly of claim 5 wherein the locking member extends through the at least one attachment member.

7. The vehicle seat assembly of claim 5 wherein the at least one attachment member further comprises a retention portion that is retained by the locking member.

8. The vehicle seat assembly of claim 1 wherein the at least one attachment member further comprises a plurality of saw tooth protrusions such that at least one of the saw tooth protrusions is retained within the at least one channel of the structural member.

9. The vehicle seat assembly of claim 8 wherein the at least one attachment member further comprises a block member that is sized to be received within the at least one channel of the cushion member.

10. The vehicle seat assembly of claim 1 wherein the at least one attachment member further comprises a first leg and a second leg such that each of the first leg and the second leg are retained within the at least one channel of the structural member.

11. The vehicle seat assembly of claim 1 wherein the attachment member further comprises at least one saw tooth protrusion such that the at least one saw tooth protrusion is retained within the at least one channel of the cushion member.

12. The vehicle seat assembly of claim 11 wherein the attachment member further comprises at least one arrow head protrusion provided on a distal end thereof such that the at least one arrow head protrusion is retained within the at least one channel of the structural member.

13. The vehicle seat assembly of claim 1 wherein the attachment member is sewn to the trim member.

14. A vehicle seat assembly comprising:

a structural member adapted to be mounted within a vehicle to provide support to an occupant, the structural member having at least one channel formed therein;

an insert member adapted to be mounted to the structural member; and

a locking system provided within the at least one channel of the structural member and mounted on the insert member to mount the insert member to the structural member.

15. The vehicle seat assembly of claim 14 wherein the insert member further comprises a non-seat feature member adapted to be mounted to the insert member.

16. The vehicle seat assembly of claim 14 wherein the insert member further comprises a cushion layer and a trim layer.

17. The vehicle seat assembly of claim 14 wherein the locking system further comprises a locking member mounted to the insert member and a retaining member provided within the at least one channel of the structural member.

18. A vehicle seat assembly comprising:

a structural member adapted to be mounted within a vehicle to provide support to an occupant, the structural member having a first channel and a second channel formed therein at spaced apart locations;

a cushion member provided adjacent to the structural layer, the cushion member having a first channel and a second channel formed therethrough and corresponding respectively with the first channel and the second channel of the structural member;

a trim member secured over the cushion member to form a seating surface;

a first attachment member mounted to the trim member and extending through the first channel of the cushion member and extending into the first channel of the structural member such that at least one of the trim material and the cushion layer is retained on the structural member; and

a second attachment member mounted to the trim member and extending through the second channel of the cushion member and extending into the second channel of the structural member such that at least one of the trim material and the cushion layer is retained on the structural member.

The vehicle seat assembly of claim 18 wherein at least one of the first attachment member and the second attachment member further comprises at least one saw tooth protrusion such that the at least one saw tooth protrusion is retained within the at least one of the first channel and the second channel of the cushion member.

The vehicle seat assembly of claim 19 wherein the at least one of the first attachment member and the second attachment member further comprises at least one arrow head protrusion provided on a distal end thereof such that the at least one arrow head protrusion is retained within the at least one of the first channel and the second channel of the structural member.
