Abstract

A mobile terminal including a transparent display, a sensing unit configured to detect a surrounding environment of the transparent display, and a controller configured to change a transparency of at least one of a background and an object displayed on the transparent display according to the sensed surrounding environment.

Claims

1. A mobile terminal comprising:

a transparent display;

a sensing unit configured to detect a surrounding environment of the transparent display; and

a controller configured to change a transparency of at least one of a background and an object displayed on the transparent display according to the sensed surrounding environment.

2. The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein the controller is further configured to detect at least one of an ambient illumination, an ambient color tone, and a current time slot as the surrounding environment information.

The mobile terminal of claim 2, wherein when the controller detects the ambient illumination is increased, the controller is further configured to reduce the transparency of the background of the transparent display, and when the controller detects the ambient illumination is decreased, the controller is further configured to increase the transparency of the background of the transparent display.

4. The mobile terminal of claim 2, further comprising:

a memory configured to store particular time slots verses particular transparencies,

wherein the controller is further configured to change the transparency of the background of the transparent display into a particular transparency stored in the memory according to the detected current time slot.

5. The mobile terminal of claim 2, further comprising:

a memory configured to store particular time slots verses particular background colors,

wherein the controller is further configured to change the background color of the background of the transparent display into a particular background color stored in the memory according to the detected current time slot.

6. The mobile terminal of claim 2, wherein if the detected ambient color tone is in a same color group as that of the displayed object, the controller is further configured to change the color tone of said at least one of the background and the object displayed on the transparent display.

The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein the controller is further configured to detect a touch input on a particular region of the transparent display, to determine if the touch input is maintained for longer than a predetermined amount of time, and to display a control menu for changing the transparency of said at least one of the background and the object displayed on the transparent display if the touch input is maintained for longer than the predetermined amount of time.

8. The mobile terminal of claim 7, wherein the control menu comprises a slide bar displayed on the transparent display that can be slid back and forth to change the transparency of the background as desired.

9. The mobile terminal of claim 7, wherein the controller is further configured to store a transparency of the background set according to the control menu as the background transparency to be used for the corresponding detected surrounding environment.

The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein the controller is further configured to change the transparency of said at least one of the background and the object displayed on the transparent display by changing one or more values of a color tone, a saturation and a brightness of the background and the object according to the sensed surrounding environment.

11. A method of controlling a mobile terminal, the method comprising:

detecting a surrounding environment of a transparent display included with the mobile terminal; and

changing a transparency of at least one of a background and an object displayed on the transparent display according to the sensed surrounding environment.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the detecting step detects at least one of an ambient illumination, an ambient color tone, and a current time slot as the surrounding environment information.

The method of claim 12, wherein when the detecting step detects the ambient illumination is increased, the changing step reduces the transparency of the background of the transparent display, and when the detecting step detects the ambient illumination is decreased, the changing step increases the transparency of the background of the transparent display.

14. The method of claim 12, further comprising:

storing particular time slots verses particular transparencies in a memory of the mobile terminal,

wherein the changing step changes the transparency of the background of the transparent display into a particular transparency stored in the memory according to the detected current time slot.

15. The method of claim 12, further comprising:

storing particular time slots verses particular background colors in a memory of the mobile terminal,

wherein the changing step changes the background color of the background of the transparent display into a particular background color stored in the memory according to the detected current time slot.

16. The method of claim 12, wherein if the detected ambient color tone is in a same color group as that of the displayed object, the changing step changes the color tone of said at least one of the background and the object displayed on the transparent display.

17. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

detecting a touch input on a particular region of the transparent display;

determining if the touch input is maintained for longer than a predetermined amount of time; and

displaying a control menu for changing the transparency of said at least one of the background and the object displayed on the transparent display if the touch input is maintained for longer than the predetermined amount of time.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the control menu comprises a slide bar displayed on the transparent display that can be slid back and forth to change the transparency of the background as desired.

19. The method of claim 17, further comprising:

storing a transparency of the background set according to the control menu as the background transparency to be used for the corresponding detected surrounding environment.

The method of claim 11, wherein the changing step changes the transparency of said at least one of the background and the object displayed on the transparent display by changing one or more values of a color tone, a saturation and a brightness of the background and the object according to the sensed surrounding environment.
