Abstract

A device for avoiding or reducing the consequences of collisions, an obstacle being recognized by a surroundings sensor and data of the obstacle are ascertained. The brakes are automatically actuated. Furthermore, an intervention in the steering system to evade the obstacle is performed only if the risk potential for the vehicle and that of other traffic participants is less than without an evasion maneuver.

9. A method for avoiding and/or reducing consequences of a collision of a vehicle, comprising:

recognizing at least one obstacle by at least one surroundings sensor;

ascertaining data of the obstacle; and

performing an intervention in a lateral guidance system of the vehicle to evade the obstacle if a risk potential for the vehicle and for other traffic participants is less than without an evasion maneuver.

10. The method according to claim 9, further comprising additionally performing automatic braking of the vehicle.

11. The method according to claim 9, wherein the risk potential is ascertained from an impact velocity of the vehicle on the obstacle or other obstacles and a type of the obstacle.

12. The method according to claim 11, wherein a high risk potential is assumed if the impact velocity exceeds a predefined threshold value which is a function of the type of the obstacle.

13. The method according to claim 11, wherein in the event of a risk potential assumed to be high, no intervention in the lateral guidance system of the vehicle takes place during an evasion, but only automatic braking is continued.

14. The method according to claim 9, wherein the risk potential is determined on a plurality of available evasion trajectories and a smallest one is selected for further processing.

15. The method according to claim 14, wherein the lateral guidance intervention takes place via steering intervention.

16. A device for avoiding and/or reducing consequences of a collision of a vehicle, comprising:

a control unit, which receives signals from at least one surroundings sensor, and recognizes an obstacle on the basis of the signals, and ascertains data of the obstacle, wherein the control unit is designed in such a way that an intervention to evade the obstacle is performed in a lateral guidance system of the vehicle if a risk potential for the vehicle and that of other traffic participants is less than without an evasion maneuver.
