1. An apparatus for calibrating an internal combustion engine having a predefined horsepower rating and categorized within an engine emissions family, comprising:

  • a calibration module comprising a plurality of calibration tables comprising a top-rated torque curve and bottom-rated torque curve for each of a plurality of predetermined engine operating modes of the engine emissions family, the top-rated torque curve corresponding to a top horsepower rating of the engine emissions family and the bottom-rated torque curve corresponding to a bottom horsepower rating of the engine emissions family;

    a conditions module configured to determine operating conditions of the internal combustion engine; and

    an output module configured to command at least one component of the engine to achieve a desired engine output exhaust gas emissions value based at least partially on the operating conditions of the internal combustion engine and a comparison between the predefined horsepower rating and the top and bottom horsepower ratings of the engine emissions family.
