SYNTHETIC BRIDGING
First Claim
1. A method of creating a synthetic bridge, comprising the steps of:
- logically extracting select data from an application layer of a first network which contains one or more first data streams to be transported to a second network;
logically extracting select data from an application layer of the second network which contains one or more second data streams to be transported to the first network; and
transporting the two or more first and second data streams over separate sets of non-network media link interfaces that only allow for limited information encoding and inherently prevent any network protocol information from being passed with the two or more first and second data streams until after the two or more first and second data streams are in the control of the opposite network from which they were transported.

Abstract
A method of creating a synthetic bridge (100) has select data (406) logically extracted from an application layer of a first network (12A) which contains one or more first data streams to be transported to a second network (12B). Select data (406) is logically extracted from an application layer of the second network (12B). Select data (406) is logically extracted from an application layer of the second network (12B) which contains one or more second data streams to be transported to the first network (12A). The two or more first and second data streams are transported over separate sets of non-network media link interfaces (130-133) that only allow for limited information encoding and inherently prevent any network protocol information from being passed with the two or more first and second data streams until after the two or more first and second data streams are in the control of the opposite network from which they were transported.

20. A synthetic bridge, comprising:
-
a set of non-network media link interfaces that are not capable of transporting network protocol; a content node having, means for interfacing to a first network including an application layer, means for extracting at least one first data stream from the first network from the application layer of the first network and for transferring a limited encoded second data stream to the application layer of the first network, means for limited encoding the extracted at least one first data stream onto the set of non-network media link interfaces, and means for receiving the limited encoded second data stream from the set of non-network media link interfaces; and a collaboration node having, means for interfacing to a second network including an application layer, means for extracting at least one second data stream from the second network from the application layer of the second network and for transferring a limited encoded first data stream to the application layer of the second network, means for limited encoding the extracted at least one second data stream onto the set of non-network media link interfaces, means for receiving the limited encoded first data stream from the set of non-network media link interfaces.
