Abstract

Subject matter disclosed herein may relate to providing user inputs, such as, for example, text from a keyboard, to an application executed on a digital video object playback device.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

receiving user inputs from one or more of a plurality of sources at an input interpreter agent, wherein the plurality of sources comprises a remote control device and an on-screen keyboard application; and

providing the received user inputs to a digital video object player application, wherein the input interpreter agent is separate from the digital video object player application.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the received user inputs comprise one or more text symbols.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein said providing the received user inputs to the digital video object player application comprises providing the one or more text symbols to the digital video object player application, the digital video object application to apply the one or more text symbols to a text field.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising reporting state information of the digital video object player application to a state monitor to be executed on a server computing platform.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of sources further comprises a hardware keyboard.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of sources further comprises user inputs provided by a computing platform via a network connection.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the user inputs provided by the computing platform via the network connection comprise user inputs provided by a server computing platform via an Internet connection.

8. A method, comprising:

receiving inputs generated by a user at an electronic device, the inputs to be received via a first network connection;

transmitting the received inputs to an input interpreter agent executed on a digital video playback device, wherein said transmitting the received inputs comprises transmitting the received inputs via a second network connection.

9. The method of claim 8, further comprising:

receiving application state information related to an application executed on the digital video playback device, wherein said receiving the application state information comprises receiving the application state information from the digital video playback device via the first network connect; and

tracking a state of the application executed on the digital video playback device based, at least in part, on the received application state information.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising transmitting information related to the application executed on the digital video playback device to the electronic device via the second network connection, wherein the transmitted information is based, at least in part, on the tracked state of the application.

11. The method of claim 8, wherein said first and second network connections comprise Internet connections.

12. The method of claim 8, wherein said receiving inputs generated by the user at the electronic device comprises receiving text generated by the user at one or more of a cellular telephone, a personal digital assistant, a video game console, a personal video game player, a portable music player, and/or a computing platform.

13. The method of claim 8, wherein said receiving inputs generated by the user comprises receiving one or more of text, playback commands, joystick commands, and/or pointing device commands.

14. An article, comprising:

a storage medium having stored thereon instructions that, if executed, enable a digital video object playback device to;

receive user inputs from one or more of a plurality of sources at an input interpreter agent, wherein the plurality of sources comprises a remote control device and an on-screen keyboard application; and

provide the received user inputs to a digital video object player application, wherein the input interpreter agent is separate from the digital video object player application.

15. The article of claim 14, wherein the received user inputs comprise one or more text symbols.

16. The article of claim 15, wherein the storage medium has stored thereon further instruction that, if executed, further direct the digital video playback device to provide the received user inputs to the digital video object player application by providing the one or more text symbols to the digital video object player application, the digital video object application to apply the one or more text symbols to a text field.

17. The article of claim 14, wherein the storage medium has stored thereon further instruction that, if executed, further direct the digital video playback device to report state information of the digital video object player application to a state monitor to be executed on a server computing platform.

18. The article of claim 14, wherein the plurality of sources further comprises a hardware keyboard.

19. The article of claim 14, wherein the plurality of sources further comprises inputs provided by a computing platform via a network connection.

20. The article of claim 19, wherein the inputs provided by the computing platform via the network connection comprise inputs provided by a server computing platform via an Internet connection.

21. An article, comprising:

a storage medium having stored therein instructions that, if executed, enable a computing platform to;

receive inputs generated by a user at an electronic device, the inputs to be received via a first network connection;

transmit the received inputs to an input interpreter agent executed on a digital video playback device, the computing platform to transmit the received inputs by via a second network connection.

22. The article of claim 21, wherein the storage medium has stored thereon further instruction that, if executed, further direct the computing platform to:

receive application state information related to an application executed on the digital video playback device, the computing platform to receive the application state information by receiving the application state information via the first network connect; and

track a state of the application executed on the digital video playback device based, at least in part, on the received application state information.

23. The article of claim 22, wherein the storage medium has stored thereon further instruction that, if executed, further direct the computing platform to transmit information related to the application executed on the digital video playback device to the electronic device via the second network connection, the computing platform to transmit information based, at least in part, on the-tracked state of the application.

24. The article of claim 21, wherein said first and second network connections comprise Internet connections.

25. The article of claim 21, wherein the storage medium has stored thereon further instruction that, if executed, further direct the computing platform receive inputs generated by the user at the electronic device by receiving text generated by the user at one or more of a cellular telephone, a personal digital assistant, a video game console, a personal video game player, a portable music player, and/or a computing platform.

26. The article of claim 21, wherein the storage medium has stored thereon further instruction that, if executed, further direct the computing platform to receive inputs generated by the user by receiving one or more of text, playback commands, joystick commands, and/or pointing device commands.

27. An apparatus, comprising:

means for receiving user inputs from one or more of a plurality of sources at an input interpreter agent, wherein the plurality of sources comprises a remote control device and an on-screen keyboard application; and

means for providing the received user inputs to a digital video object player application, wherein the input interpreter agent is separate from the digital video object player application.

28. The apparatus of claim 27, wherein the received user inputs comprise one or more text symbols.

29. The apparatus of claim 28, wherein said means for providing the received user inputs to the digital video object player application comprises means for providing the one or more text symbols to the digital video object player application, the digital video object application to apply the one or more text symbols to a text field.

30. The apparatus of claim 27, further comprising means for reporting state information of the digital video object player application to a state monitor to be executed on a server computing platform.

31. The apparatus of claim 27, wherein the plurality of sources further comprises a hardware keyboard.

32. The apparatus of claim 27, wherein the plurality of sources further comprises user inputs provided by a computing platform via a network connection.

33. The apparatus of claim 32, wherein the user inputs provided by the computing platform via the network connection comprise user inputs provided by a server computing platform via an Internet connection.

34. An apparatus, comprising:

means for receiving inputs generated by a user at a remote electronic device, the inputs to be received via a first network connection;

means for transmitting the received inputs to an input interpreter agent executed on a remote digital video playback device, wherein said transmitting the received inputs comprises transmitting the received inputs via a second network connection.

35. The apparatus of claim 34, further comprising:

means for receiving application state information related to an application executed on the digital video playback device, wherein said means for receiving the application state information comprises means for receiving the application state information from the digital video playback device via the first network connection; and

tracking a state of the application executed on the digital video playback device based, at least in part, on the received application state information.

36. The apparatus of claim 35, further comprising means for transmitting information related to the application executed on the digital video playback device to the electronic device via the second network connection, wherein the transmitted information is based, at least in part, on the tracked state of the application.

37. The apparatus of claim 34, wherein said first and second network connections comprise Internet connections.

38. The apparatus of claim 34, wherein said means for receiving inputs generated by the user at the electronic device comprises means for receiving text generated by the user at one or more of a cellular telephone, a personal digital assistant, a video game console, a personal video game player, a portable music player, and/or a computing platform.

39. The apparatus of claim 34, wherein said means for receiving inputs generated by the user comprises means for receiving one or more of text, playback commands, joystick commands, and/or pointing device commands.
