Abstract

The present invention relates to a method and system to provide service information to a portable terminal based on the location information associated with the portable terminal. The service information providing method is performed in such a way that a server acquires location information associated with the portable terminal and service information corresponding to the location information. The portable terminal may acquire and store the service information from the server. The portable terminal user can also identify new service information regarding a place where the user is located.

Claims

1. A method for providing service information, comprising:

acquiring, by a server, location information associated with a portable terminal;

acquiring, by the server, the service information corresponding to the location information from at least one service provider; and

transmitting, to the portable terminal by the server, the service information, the transmitted service information being stored in the portable terminal.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

displaying a list of pieces of service information in response to a user'"'"'s request.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

increasing, in response to selection of one of the listed pieces of service information, a weight of the selected service information.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the service information comprises coupon information, information regarding stores and restaurants, and/or event information.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein storing the service information comprises:

determining, by the portable terminal, whether to update previously stored service information based on currently received service information; and

storing, if an update is needed, the currently received service information.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein storing the currently received service information comprises:

deleting, by the portable terminal, the previously stored service information.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein deleting the previously stored service information comprises:

displaying a message providing an option to delete service information; and

deleting, if the delete option is selected, the previously stored service information.

8. The method of claim 2, wherein displaying a list of pieces of service information comprises listing the pieces of service information according to a weight corresponding to an order of precedence.

9. A system for providing service information, the system comprising:

a portable terminal; and

a server to receive location information associated with the portable terminal, to acquire service information corresponding to the location information, and to transmit the service information to the portable terminal.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the portable terminal displays a list of pieces of service information corresponding to a current location, in response to a request by a user of the portable terminal.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein, in response to selection of one of the listed pieces of service information, the portable terminal increases a weight of the selected piece of service information.

12. The system of claim 9, wherein the portable terminal determines whether to update previously stored service information based on currently received service information and wherein the portable terminal stores the currently received service information if an update is needed.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein the portable terminal deletes the previously stored service information.

14. The system of claim 9, wherein the portable terminal displays a list of the service information.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the portable terminal lists pieces of service information in the list according to a weight assigned to the pieces of service information.

16. The system of claim 9, wherein the server receives the location information according to a location based service (LBS).

17. A portable terminal, comprising:

a location identifying unit to acquire location information associated with a current location of the portable terminal and to transmit the location information to a server; and

a service information managing unit to store service information, received from the server in response to the location information, and to provide the service information, in a list, in response to a request by a user of the portable terminal.

18. The portable terminal of claim 17, wherein, in response to a selection of one of pieces of service information in the list, the service information managing unit increases a weight of the selected piece of service information.

19. The portable terminal of claim 18, wherein the service information managing unit lists the pieces of service information according to the weight assigned to the pieces of service information.

20. The portable terminal of claim 17, wherein, in response to receipt of the service information from the server, the service information managing unit deletes previously stored service information and stores the received service information.
