Abstract

Disclosed are compositions for an organic electroluminescent device favorably used for forming a hole injection layer and a hole transport layer of the organic electroluminescent device by a wet film forming method. The compositions for the organic electroluminescent device, which are composite solutions prepared by dissolving hole transport materials such as aromatic diamine compounds and an electron acceptor such as tri(pentafluorophenyl)boron in a solvent that contains an ether solvent and/or an ester solvent whose water solubility at 25° C. is 1 weight % or less in the solvent, with a concentration of 10 weight % or higher in the compositions.

12. A composition comprising:

at least one hole injection/transport material and an electron acceptor dissolved in a non-cyclic aromatic ether,

wherein the concentration of the non-cyclic aromatic ether in said composition is 10 wt % or higher.

13. The composition of claim 12 that contains at least one aromatic amine hole injection/transport material.

14. The composition of claim 12 that contains at least one boron compound electron acceptor.

15. The composition of claim 12, further comprising an aliphatic ether.

16. The composition of claim 12, wherein the non-cyclic aromatic ether is at least one selected from the group consisting of 1,2-dimethoxybenzene, 1,3-dimethoxybenzene, anisole, phenetole, 2-methoxytoluene, 3-methoxytoluene, 4-methoxytoluene, 2,3-dimethyl anisole, 2,4-dimethyl anisole, trifluoromethoxy anisole, pentafluoromethoxybenzene, and 3-(trifluoromethyl) anisole.

17. The composition of claim 12, further comprising an aliphatic ester.

The composition of claim 12, further comprising at least one selected from the group consisting of ethyl acetate, n-butyl acetate, ethyl lactate, n-butyl lactate, phenyl acetate, phenyl propionate, methyl benzoate, ethyl benzoate, isopropyl benzoate, propyl benzoate, n-butyl benzoate, 2-phenoxyethyl acetate, and ethyl (pentafluorobenzoate).

19. The composition of claim 12, wherein the concentration of the non-cyclic aromatic ether is 50 wt % or higher.

20. The composition of claim 12, wherein said non-cyclic aromatic ether has a water solubility of 1% or less at 25°

C.

21. The composition of claim 12, wherein said non-cyclic aromatic ether has a surface tension of 40N/m or less at 20°

C.

22. The composition of claim 12, wherein said non-cyclic aromatic ether has a vapor pressure of 10 mmHg or lower at 25°

C.

23. The composition of claim 12, which contains 1 wt % or less of quenchers which deactivate hole injection/transport materials and/or electron acceptor(s).

24. The composition of claim 23, wherein said quenchers are alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, solvents of protonic acids, halogens, or mixtures thereof.

25. The composition of claim 12, wherein said non-cyclic aromatic ether has a water content of 1 wt % or less.

26. The composition of claim 12, further comprising at least one binder resin in an amount of 30 wt % or less.

27. The composition of claim 12 that contains no binder resin.

28. The composition of claim 12, wherein the content of the electron acceptor(s) relative to the hole injection/transport material is 40 mol % or less.

29. An organic electroluminescent device comprising at least one hole injection layer and/or hole transport layer formed by the application of a wet film of the composition of claim 12.

30. The organic electroluminescent device of claim 29, which comprises an anode, hole injection layer, hole transport layer, light emitting layer, and cathode laminated on a substrate.

31. A method for manufacturing an organic electroluminescent device, comprising:

applying a wet coating of the composition of claim 12 to at least one surface and removing the solvent, thus forming a hole injection and/or hole transport layer on said surface.

32. The composition of claim 12, wherein the hole injection/transport material is at least one solvent selected from the group consisting of an aromatic amine, a phthalocyanine, a phthalocyanine derivative, a porphyrin, a porphyrin derivative, a metal complex of a 8-hydroxyquinoline having a diarylamino group, and a metal complex of an 8-hydroxyquinoline having an oligothiophene group.

33. The composition of claim 12, wherein the hole injection/transport material is a compound having one or more triarylamino groups.
