bonding the upper layer, middle deflection layer, and bottom layer to form the pump.

48. A method of manufacturing a drug chamber for an implantable electrolytic pump comprising:

coating a first photoresist layer onto a silicon substrate as a sacrificial layer; depositing a first parylene layer onto the first photoresist layer to form a first layer of the pump; coating a second photoresist layer over the first parylene layer; lithographically patterning the second photoresist layer by differential exposure to create a plurality of concentric ridges; depositing a second parylene layer onto the second photoresist layer; patterning the first and second parylene layers; and removing the photoresist layers, thereby leaving the drug chamber.

49. A method of sterilizing an implantable electrolytic pump having an electrolysis chamber, a drug chamber, and a sealed enclosure containing electrical components, the method comprising:

60. A method of sterilizing a sealed-chamber device during assembly thereof, the method comprising the steps of:

sterilizing a pair of heat-sensitive boundary membranes in a manner that does not damage them; attaching the sterilized membranes to a support to form sealed chambers each bounded by at least one of the membranes, a refill port fluidly communicating with each chamber; sterilizing the chambers by introducing a sterilizing gas therein via the refill ports; and replacing the gas in each of the chambers with a working fluid via the refill ports. - View Dependent Claims (61, 62, 63, 64)
