Abstract

Methods of communicating with a mobile unit using a wireless communication system are described. In one embodiment, a signal is received from a transmitting mobile unit. The status of the mobile unit is determined and a communication is constructed. The communication comprises at least one communication packet comprising a plurality of information fields. The communication is transmitted to the mobile unit.

Claims

1. A method of communicating with a mobile unit using a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

receiving a signal transmitted by a mobile unit, the signal comprising an identifier and a status of the mobile unit;

determining the status of the mobile unit, the determining comprises parsing the signal to determine the identifier and the status;

constructing a communication comprising at least one communication packet, the at least one communication packet comprising a plurality of information fields, the plurality of information fields including an address, and the identifier; and

transmitting the communication comprising the communication packet to the mobile unit.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the determining is performed by a second mobile unit.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein the second mobile unit is located along the roadside of which the mobile unit is traveling.

4. The method of claim 2 wherein the second mobile unit interfaces with the Internet.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the transmitting is occurs as the mobile unit approaches a property.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising storing the communication in a communication log.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the communication comprises an advertisement.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein the communication comprises a traffic update.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein the communication comprises weather information.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the plurality of information fields comprises a security field.

11. The method of claim 1 wherein the receiving the signal further comprises receiving identifying information relating to a user of the mobile unit.

12. The method of claim 11 wherein the identifying information is processed by a microprocessor to search for a match.

13. A method of communicating with a mobile unit using a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

receiving a signal transmitted by a mobile unit, the signal comprising an identifier and a status of the mobile unit;

determining the status of the mobile unit, the determining comprising parsing the signal to determine the identifier and the status;

constructing a communication comprising at least one communication packet, the at least one communication packet comprising a plurality of information fields, the plurality of information fields including an address, and the identifier; and

transmitting the communication over the Internet, the communication comprising the at least one communication packet.

14. The method of claim 13 wherein the determining is performed by a second mobile unit.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein the second mobile unit is located along the roadside of which the mobile unit is traveling.

16. The method of claim 13 wherein the transmitting occurs as the mobile unit approaches a property.

17. The method of claim 13 further comprising storing the communication in a communication log.

18. The method of claim 13 wherein the communication comprises an advertisement.

19. The method of claim 13 wherein the communication comprises a traffic update.

20. The method of claim 13 wherein the communication comprises weather information.

21. The method of claim 13 wherein the plurality of information fields comprises a security field.

22. The method of claim 13 wherein the receiving the signal further comprises receiving identifying information relating to a user of the mobile unit.

23. The method of claim 22 wherein the identifying information is processed by a microprocessor to search for a match
