Abstract

A system and method for integrating voice and data operations into a single mobile device capable of simultaneously performing data and voice actions. The mobile device working in a network capable of exchanging both cell phone calls and data items to the mobile device. By wearing an earphone or an ear-bud device the user is capable of dealing with voice conversations while working with data centric information related to the current caller. By providing a data-centric device with voice capabilities there is a new range of features that allow incoming data events to trigger outgoing voice events.

Claims

1. A method for facilitating use of a dual mode mobile device having a data component and a voice component, said method comprising:

receiving a voice call containing caller identification information at the dual mode mobile device;

determining a data component application to launch based on a call preference and the caller identification information; and

launching the data component application.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the call preference comprises a user-preferred data component application.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the data component application comprises a calendar application.

4. The method of claim 3 further comprising creating a calendar appointment.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the data component application comprises a call log application.

6. The method of claim 5 further comprising recording the caller identification information in an editable format.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the data component application comprises an address book application.

8. The method of claim 7 further comprising presenting address information associated with the caller identification information.

9. The method of claim 7 further comprising creating a new address book entry to store indicia associated with the caller identification information.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the data component application comprises an email client application.

11. The method of claim 9 further comprising creating an email message addressed to an address associated with the caller identification information.

12. The method of claim 1 wherein the caller identification information comprises includes an originating phone number.

13. The method of claim 1 wherein the caller identification information comprises a caller name.

14. The method of claim 1 further comprising providing the caller identification information to the data component application launched during said launching.

15. An apparatus for a dual mode mobile device having a data component and a voice component, said apparatus comprising:

a receiver configured to receive a voice call containing caller identification information at the dual mode mobile device;

a determiner configured to determine, responsive to the caller identification information contained in the voice call received by said receiver, a data component application to launch based upon a call preference and the caller identification information; and

;

a launcher configured to launch the data component application.

16. The apparatus of claim 15 wherein the data component application comprises a calendar application and wherein said launcher is further configured to provide for creation of a calendar appointment.

17. The apparatus of claim 15 wherein the data component application comprises a call log application and wherein said launcher is further configured to provide for recordation of the caller identification information in an editable format.

18. The apparatus of claim 15 wherein the data component application comprises an address book application and wherein said launcher is further configured to provide for creation of a new address book entry to store indicia associated with the caller identification information.

19. The apparatus of claim 15 wherein the data component application comprises an email client application and wherein said launcher is further configured to create an email message addressed to an address associated with the caller identification information.

20. A method for facilitating use of a dual mode mobile device having a data component and a voice component, said method comprising:

receiving a voice call containing caller identification information at the dual mode mobile device;

accepting the voice call; and

causing at least a first data related event to take place, the first data related event comprising a configured-preference event.
