Abstract

A hard surface detergent composition is provided, said composition comprising a peroxygen bleach capable of exhibiting bleaching properties at a pH of below 9, and an amino ketone or derivative thereof bleach activator, and wherein a 1% wt solution in distilled water at 25° C. of the composition has a pH lower than 9. Potassium monopersulphate is the preferred bleach compound and diethyl amino acetone or derivative thereof is the preferred bleach activator. The compositions exhibit good bleaching performance at pHs of less than 9.

Claims

1. A hard surface detergent composition, said composition comprising;

a) a peroxygen bleach capable of exhibiting bleaching properties at a pH of below 9, and

an amino ketone or derivative thereof bleach activator,

and wherein a 1% wt solution in distilled water at 25°

C. of the composition has a pH of below 9.

2. A hard surface detergent composition according to claim 1, wherein the composition is a dishwashing detergent composition.

3. A hard surface detergent composition according to claim 2, wherein the dishwashing detergent composition is an automatic dishwashing detergent.

4. A hard surface detergent composition according to claim 1 wherein the peroxygen bleach is capable of exhibiting bleaching properties at a pH in the range of from 6.5 to 8.5.

5. A hard surface detergent composition according to claim 1, wherein the composition comprises 1% wt to 20% wt of the peroxygen bleach.

6. A hard surface detergent composition according to claim 1, wherein the peroxygen bleach is a persulphate bleach.

7. A hard surface detergent composition according to claim 1, wherein the persulphate bleach is a sodium or potassium salt of the persulphate bleach.

8. A hard surface detergent composition according to claim 7, wherein the persulphate bleach is potassium monopersulphate.

9. A hard surface detergent composition according to claim 1, wherein the composition comprises the amino ketone or derivative thereof bleach activator in an amount of from 0.01 to 10 wt %.

10. A hard surface detergent composition according to claim 1, wherein the amino ketone or derivative thereof bleach activator is a dialkyl-amino acetone.

11. A hard surface detergent composition according to claim 1, wherein the dialkyl-amino acetone has two independently C₁-C₅ alkyl chains.

12. A hard surface detergent composition according to claim 11, wherein the dialkyl-amino acetone is diethyl amino acetone.

13. A hard surface detergent composition according to claim 1, wherein the amino ketone derivative is a hydrochloride salt.

14. A hard surface detergent composition according to claim 1, wherein the detergent composition further comprises a source of multivalent cations.

15. A hard surface detergent composition according to claim 14, wherein the multivalent cation is selected from the group consisting of zinc, bismuth or manganese.

16. A hard surface detergent composition according to claim 14, wherein the source of multivalent cations is chosen from the group consisting of compounds of sulphates, carbonates, acetates, gluconates and metal-protein compounds.

17. A hard surface detergent composition according to claim 1, wherein the detergent composition comprises a pH buffering system.

18. A hard surface detergent composition according to claim 1, wherein the detergent composition has a pH in the range of from 6.5 to 8.5 as a 1% wt solution in demineralised water at 25°

C.

19. A method for improving the bleaching performance of a peroxygen bleach comprising the step of:

providing an amino ketone or derivative thereof bleach activator and a source of multivalent ions in the presence of the peroxygen bleach.
