1. An implanted system comprising:

  • a power device external to a human or animal body, the power device having power electrodes in contact with the body so as to make direct electrical connection to the tissues of the body, the power device being arranged to apply electrical energy to the body via the power electrodes; and

an implanted device within the body, the implanted device having implanted electrodes arranged to receive said electrical energy via the body, thereby to provide power for said implanted device, wherein the power device is arranged to apply an electric potential between the power electrodes, the potential being in the form of a repetitive waveform, the electric potential being such as to generate electric current in the body and thereby to transfer said electrical energy to said implanted electrodes.
