Abstract
A substrate having a position-coding pattern disposed on its surface thereof. The position-coding pattern comprises a plurality of target elements defining a target grid. The target grid comprises a plurality of cells and each cell has a target element positioned at its corners so that neighboring cells share target elements. A plurality of tags are contained with the position-coding pattern, each tag being defined by a plurality of contiguous cells. Each tag comprises respective location data encoded by a respective set of data elements.
