Abstract

A system to provide a warning to a person in a vehicle when the vehicle is proximal or in a danger area to an emergency services vehicle or a hazard area, the system comprising an emitter on the emergency services vehicle or in or adjacent the hazard area, a radio associated with the vehicle, the radio having a receiver to receive the signal from the emitter, a speaker, a decoder means to send a warning signal to the speaker when the receiver receives a signal from the emitter.

Claims

1. A system to provide a warning to a person in a vehicle when the vehicle is proximal or in a danger area to an emergency services vehicle or a hazard area, the system comprising an emitter on the emergency services vehicle or in or adjacent the hazard area, a radio associated with the vehicle, the radio having a receiver to receive the signal from the emitter, a speaker, a decoder to send a warning signal to the speaker when the receiver receives a signal from the emitter, and an interrupter to interrupt the radio output when the warning signal is sent, the system further comprising canceling means adapted to allow cancellation of the warning.

2. The system as claimed in claim 1, comprising a unit which can be fitted to a vehicle other than the emergency services vehicle, the unit containing the decoder.

3. The system as claimed in claim 2, wherein the unit is coupled to the vehicle antenna and if the signal is received from the emitter, will send the warning to the vehicle speakers.

4. The system as claimed in claim 3, wherein the unit is powered from the vehicle.

5. The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the warning signal comprises an audio signal.

6. The system as claimed in claim 2, wherein the unit mutes the existing sound system to interrupt the sound output.

7. The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the canceling means comprises a switch or timer.
