Abstract

In wireless network communication, the present invention provides a method of checking whether information on a request for a mode change is received for a prescribed channel time in a manner that a device configuring a network enters a power save mode in the course of not performing data transmission/reception and that a modem enters an awake state from a sleep state for the prescribed channel time. And, the prescribed channel time is determined to correspond to a time for transmitting a beacon. According to one preferred embodiment of the present invention, a modem of a device in a power save mode enters an awake state for a channel time period for broadcasting a beacon and then checks whether information on a power management mode change is received. If the information does not exist, a sleep state is reentered. If the power management mode change information is received, a power is managed by performing data transmission/reception in a manner of switching to a normal mode.

17. A method for managing power at a coordinator in a wireless network which includes at least one device, the method comprising:

broadcasting a first beacon which includes information indicating that a first device is in a power save mode;

receiving a first request message from a second device which wishes to communicate with the first device, the first request message used for requesting to change a power management mode of the first device from the power save mode to a normal mode;

broadcasting a second beacon which includes information indicating that the first device needs to change the power management mode from the power save mode to the normal mode; and

broadcasting a third beacon which includes information indicating that the first device is in the normal mode.

18. The method of claim 17, further comprising:

receiving a second request message from the first device, the second message used for requesting a change of the power management mode from the power save mode to the normal mode; and

transmitting a response message to the first device in response to the second request message, the response message including information indicating an allowance of the change of the power management mode from the power save mode to the normal mode.

19. The method of claim 17, wherein the first request message includes an identifier of the first device and a requested power management mode.

20. The method of claim 17, wherein the first device enters into the normal mode after receiving the second beacon.

21. A coordinator in communication with at least one device in a wireless network, wherein the coordinator is configured to:

broadcast a first beacon which includes information indicating that a first device is in a power save mode;

receive a first request message from a second device which wishes to communicate with the first device, the first request message used for requesting to change a power management mode of the first device from the power save mode to a normal mode;

broadcast a second beacon which includes information indicating that the first device needs to change the power management mode from the power save mode to the normal mode; and

broadcast a third beacon which includes information indicating that the first device is in the normal mode.

22. The coordinator of claim 21, wherein the coordinator is further configured to:

receive a second request message from the first device, the second message requesting a change of the power management mode from the power save mode to the normal mode; and

transmit a response message to the first device in response to the second request message, the response message including information indicating an allowance of the change of the power management mode from the power save mode to the normal mode.

23. The coordinator of claim 21, wherein the first request message includes an identifier of the first device and a requested power management mode.
