Abstract

A peritoneal dialysis system includes: an automated peritoneal dialysis (“APD”) machine configured to remove ultrafiltrate (“UF”) from a patient and record how much UF has been removed; and a logic implementer configured to (i) form a first moving average UF removed trend, (ii) determine a trending range around the first moving average UF removed trend, (iii) determine at least one of an upper and lower UF removed limit from the trending range, (iv) form a second moving average UF removed trend, and (v) alert if the second moving average UF removed trend moves outside of the at least one UF removed limit.

Claims

1. A peritoneal dialysis system comprising:

an automated peritoneal dialysis (“

APD”

) machine; and

a server computer in communication with the APD machine, the server computer and APD machine programmed such that the APD machine can send patient ultrafiltration (“

UF”

) removed data to the server computer, the server computer programmed to output the UF removed data in a form suitable for a doctor/clinician to review the data and make a therapy adjustment if necessary.

2. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 1, the form including a daily UF removed trend.

3. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 2, the trend including at least one of an upper and a lower UF limit, the at least one limit used with the trended UF removed data to determine if therapy adjustment is necessary.

4. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 3, the APD machine programmed to send an alert to the server computer if an alert condition is met, the alert condition at least partially based on a comparison of the daily UF removed data to the at least one limit.

5. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 3, server computer programmed to generate an alert if an alert condition is met, the alert condition at least partially based on a comparison of the daily UF removed data to the at least one limit.

6. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 3, the at least one limit being a factor multiplied by an expected daily UF removal amount.

7. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 1, the server computer and the APD machine further configured such that the APD machine can send at least one of blood pressure and patient weight data to the server computer.

The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 7, which includes a wireless interface receiver operable with the logic implementer, at least one of a scale and a blood pressure monitor including a wireless interface transmitter, the at least one of the blood pressure and patient weight data sent wirelessly from at least one of the scale and the blood pressure monitor to the wireless interface receiver.

9. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 1, the UF removed data form including a moving average UF removed trend.

10. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 9, the trend including at least one of an upper and a lower UF limit, the at least one limit used with the moving average UF removed trend to determine if therapy adjustment is necessary.

11. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 10, the APD machine programmed to send an alert to the server computer if an alert condition is met, the alert condition at least partially based on a comparison of the moving average UF removed trend to the at least one limit.

12. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 10, server computer programmed to generate an alert if an alert condition is met, the alert condition at least partially based on a comparison of the moving average UF removed trend to the at least one limit.

13. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 10, the moving average UF removed trend a first trend, the at least one limit being a factor multiplied by a second moving average trend.

14. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 13, the second moving average trend being of a longer duration than the first moving average trend.

15. A peritoneal dialysis system comprising:

an automated peritoneal dialysis (“

APD”

) machine; and

a server computer in communication with the APD machine, the server computer and the APD machine programmed to generate a peritoneal dialysis data trend that a doctor/clinician can use to determine if a therapy adjustment needs to be made.

16. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 15, wherein the peritoneal dialysis trending data is of a type selected from the group consisting of:

(i) ultrafiltrate removed data;

(ii) blood pressure data; and

(iii) patient weight data.

17. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 15, the APD machine programmed to collect/generate the data for the trend, the server computer programmed to generate the trend of the data.

18. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 15, the APD machine programmed to collect/generate the data for the trend and generate the trend of the data.

19. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 18, the APD machine further configured to send an alert to the server computer when the data trend indicates that it is likely that therapy adjustment needs to be made.

20. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 15, the therapy adjustment of a type selected from the group consisting of:

(i) a change of dialysate type, (ii) a change of dialysate dextrose level, (iii) a change in therapy time, (iv) a change in fill volume, (v) a change in number of night fill exchanges, and (vi) whether or not a day exchange is performed.

21. A peritoneal dialysis system comprising:

an automated peritoneal dialysis (“

APD”

) machine configured to remove ultrafiltrate (“

UF”

) from a patient and record how much UF has been removed; and

a logic implementer configured to (i) form a first moving average UF removed trend, (ii) determine a trending range around the first moving average UF removed trend, (iii) determine at least one of an upper and lower UF removed limit from the trending range, (iv) form a second moving average UF removed trend, and (v) alert if the second moving average UF removed trend moves outside of the at least one UF removed limit.

22. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 21, wherein the logic implementer is housed at one of the APD machine and a server computer in communication with the APD machine.

23. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 21, wherein the first moving average UF removed trend is of a longer duration than the second moving average UF removed trend.

24. The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 21, wherein the upper limit is formed by adding a factor multiplied by the trending range to the first moving average UF removed trend, and the lower limit is formed by subtracting the factor multiplied by the trending range to the first moving average UF removed trend.

The peritoneal dialysis system of claim 21, the alert provided if (i) the UF removed trend moves outside the at least one UF removed limit for a certain number of consecutive days or (ii) the UF removed trends moves outside the at least one UF removed limit and the patient'"'"'s blood pressure rises above a limit.
